New Mythical Pokemon Discovered In Pokemon GO – Introducing Meltan

The Pokémon Company International, Niantic, Inc., and Nintendo announced today that a new Mythical Pokémon has been discovered in the world of Pokémon GO: Meltan!

Meltan is a Steel-type Pokémon with a body made mostly of liquid metal, which makes its shape very fluid. This Pokémon can use its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its body. Meltan can generate electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. It uses this electricity as an energy source and for an attack it fires from its eye.

Meanwhile, with the help of Pokémon GO players around the world, Professor Willow conducts his research in the field to fully understand the habitats and distribution of Pokémon. He was once an assistant to Professor Oak, and he talks to Oak, his mentor, whenever he runs into a hitch in his research.

It has been determined that Pokémon GO is somehow key to meeting Meltan in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!Updates will be provided as more is discovered about this mysterious Mythical Pokémon.

Pokémon GO, a mobile game that encourages fans to discover and catch Pokémon in the real world, is available for download both for iPhone in the App Store and for Android devices on Google Play.

      1. Just because the owner announces something doesn’t mean it can’t be a spoiler. If Marvel had announced Spider-Man gets dusted at the end of Infinity War before the movie released, it still would have been a spoiler. That said, I personally don’t care if Meltan is a spoiler or not.

  1. So is this Gen 8 Pokemon locked behind LGPE, and to a worse extent, Pokemon Go and a smartphone (all of which of which I have to BUY)?

      1. Not everyone has a smartphone. I don’t have one, because I don’t have a need for one, plus I don’t need another monthly bill to pay as well. So if the mobile GO app is required to get Meltan, then I’ll have to wait until a code gets distributed, either through Nintendo Network or Gamestop. I’d imagine other people would have to do the same as well.

      2. Actually, it does. These games are also aimed at children, and I’m sure that they don’t all own mobile phones needed for Pokemon Go.

And I’ll be damned if I’m locked out of getting this Pokemon come Gen 8, just because I didn’t spend money on LGPE.

I just hope Meltan gets rereleased as a standalone event Pokemon (like Zeraora, and other Mythical Pokemon before it).

      3. Thats some bullshit logic. They go through the trouble of making sure you can still get the Alolan forms in Lets Go without the need of the phone app and then pull this shit making you need it. The phone crap should just be an extra option to link to, not a core mechanic to 100% the core game.

Plus there is just the all important fact that everyone just seems to ignore that one day GO will more then likely not be supported anymore, making access to this character completely useless for these games. Hopefully this is just a small teaser for the next gen.

Oh well, hopefully Meltan’s data is already in the data for the base games then and people can just hack it into the game with a cheat device or however they do it these days, just like with all the other Mythical mon’s GameFreak still requires dumb ass real-life events to obtain instead of you know, actual progression in the games themselves.

  2. I don’t mind new Pokemon. What I do mind is locking a Pokemon behind a smartphone game. I don’t do smartphones. That said, as long as Meltan is given away through a code distribution later on, whatever.
