Japan: Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country Enters Charts At Number Eleven

The latest Japanese video game sales charts are now in via the team at sales tracker Media Create. It’s been a decent week for new releases with Steins;Gate Elite arriving on the Nintendo Switch at number four, beating the likes of Splatoon 2 which is at five this week. The standalone edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country entered the charts this week at number eleven, so it is safe to assume a large number of owners of the original game purchased it via the Expansion Pass.

  1. That’s a dreadful debut for Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country. And look at Labo Toy-Con 03: Vehicle Kit continuing to crash and burn.

    1. You can only determine success if you know the cost of development/manufacturing. For example, a game like Spider-man HAS to sell millions to be profitable. You could think that a game like that is selling well, but it could easily be a failure by simply not selling ENOUGH. Labo doesn’t need to pay enough artists to fill a stadium, voice actors, etc. That means they can sell less and still be successful in the eyes of investors.

That also means that smaller budget projects let us have more niche titles. Rather than wanting every game to be a massive blockbuster, which means publishers can’t take any risks and have to appeal to the broadest audience possible, we can have different kinds of games! And even though that means that sometimes they might make something that isn’t for you (the horror!), you might get something you like that you’d never have otherwise.

    2. I don’t think that’s too bad. Since I have the season pass for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I didn’t need to download the standalone game. For those who don’t have it, or bought the season pass, it’s cherry on the sundae at this point. Plus, I’ve had my version since the 14th when the standalone launched the following week.

Labo? Crashing and burning? I don’t know where you’re getting your numbers, but it’s done pretty well. For what little publicity Labo is getting from Nintendo, I’d say they’re making a decent return on investment for it. From April to July 2018, it sold roughly 1.4 million units worldwide and only small commercial debut on social media.

    3. Pretendo moron, you really need to seek medical attention right away. The Samus symbol does not suit you and your hatred to Nintendo only make matters worse. You don’t belong here at My Nintendo News.
