Monolith Soft: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 And Torna Golden Country Have Exceeded Company’s Expectations

Game Informer have had the opportunity to chat with Monolith Soft Executive Director Tetsuya Takahashi about the excellent Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and its standalone expansion Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the Golden Country. Mr. Takahashi told the site that sales of both games have exceeded the company’s initial expectations on the Nintendo Switch.

“From a sales perspective, I have to say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 exceeded my expectations,” Takahashi tells me through a translator during a recent phone interview. “We really saw more people pick the game up and experience it in the North American and European territories than we thought would do so.

“It’s still early days for the Torna DLC, but from what we’ve seen in Japan, the sales of the Torna DLC are exceeding our expectations as well,” Takahashi adds.

  1. Its Xenoblade so of course it will do well for a niche game, sure its not a perfect game but still pretty good, even the cringing voice acting for some of the characters.

  2. I’m glad it’s doing so well. Hopefully that means we’ll get a lot more Xenoblade games in the future. I’d love to see a Xenoblade Chronicles X2.

      1. That would be pretty awesome as well, I’d like to see what other kinds of games they can create. If not a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X then, if they do make a remake, I’d love to have a DLC package that explains the cliff hanger ending that it had.

  3. How about a xenosaga port or a xenogears part us pal peeps never got a relase except for xenogears episode 2 lol.

But yes bring all the games over and make new games too lol il give u the cash no doubt about that lol

    1. That’s up to publisher Bandai Namco since they own the Xenosaga IP. If BN were to bring back the Xenosaga trilogy, I’m sure that Nintendo its first party developer MONOLITH SOFT will lend a helping hand in creating the HD remastered version.

  4. It’s kinda funny how in recent years we’ve had a few niche franchises suddenly boom into major ones. First Fire Emblem and now Xenoblade.

    1. Damn how much Fire Emblem deserved it! Remember all those years I had to “fight” for Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter and Phoenix Wright. Good to see all those games enjoys the success they deserves.

      1. I want to play a giant mech game again as I haven’t played one since Rare’s Blast Corps on N64 sometime before 2000; ugh I’m old! lol But I prefer it be an original game (like Daemon X Machina) & not part of some game trying to use name brand recognition to sell. I wish they gave the game a chance and named it something other than Xenoblade Chronicles; a shame they don’t own Xenogears or it could have been a direct sequel to that and called Xenogears II but Square Enix owns the rights to that game’s name. Of course, I haven’t written XCX off completely, though. If it ever comes to Switch, I’ll definitely buy it (eventually.) (Who knows. Maybe the boob slider will return. lol)

      2. (I seriously don’t get why they removed it. All they had to do was tinker it a little for a western release to make it to where you can’t make the boobs too big or too small. Honestly, they should have attached a damn limit to the max. and min. sizes during development of the Japanese version to begin with. Bad on Monolith Soft for not doing that since they should know these things; I expect such ignorance from the main team Nintendo developers but not Monolith Soft.)

          1. Back in the day, I would have said “Not a fucking chance in Hell!” aka a 0% chance. lol But today with them supporting games like Bayonetta and Skyrim, I want to give the idea a 50/50% chance.

              1. In 2017, Nintendo took one step forward by releasing games like BotW and Super Mario Odyssey that changed up the traditional approach to how 3D Zelda and Super Mario games were made and throwing away certain old traditions.

In 2018, they foolishly took 2 steps back with how they are doing the online features for paid online.

In 2019, maybe they’ll actually take another step forward and let Monolith Soft make the first ever 1st party Nintendo game rated M for Mature that was made by an in-house Nintendo development team. (As I told another, I don’t count Eternal Darkness or Bayonetta 2 as those were made by 3rd party developers, making those M rated games 2nd party titles. And I just realized I didn’t include Conker’s Bad Fur Day to that list, but it’s okay to not include it since that franchise went with Rare when Microsoft bought Nintendo’s remaining shares in the company.)

                1. Well, let’s hope for some positive changes next year!
I do agree with Bayonetta, Conker and Eternal Darkness. But as long as they keep bringing that content on the Switch, I’m pleased. As long as they’re not crappy Ubisoft or EA ports.
