Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime has recently said that he doesn’t see Xbox and PlayStation as competitors and says instead he thinks about how much time people spend gaming and how Nintendo can cater to that and fill the minutes with immersive, fun and entertaining games.
“Yet in spite of this comparison to other game-hardware producers’ services, Fils-Aime answered the question of whether he saw Xbox and PlayStation as competitors with a flat “I don’t.”
He counted the exact number of minutes per day and said that outside of the time a consumer spends eating, sleeping, working, and going to school, “all of the rest of that time is entertainment time. That’s what I compete for, minute by minute. That time you spend surfing the Web, watching a movie, watching a telecast of a conference: that’s all entertainment time we’re competing for. My competitive set is much bigger than my direct competitors in Sony and Microsoft. I compete for time. When I do that, I have to be creative and innovative in order to win that battle.”

And why should he? We’re getting a Smash bros with Every fighter, every 3rd party franchise that has ever mattered (and Bayonetta), the Captain N trio, and Fountain of dreams. Sony and Microsoft don’t stand a chance.

I know you what you mean. When I think of game consoles in relation to cars, I’m thinking the Switch is a brand new hybrid car. Whereas, as your example suggests, the Xbox One and PS4 is the rusted out pick-up truck with the giant exhaust spewing out smoke clouds.
So, yes, I think the Xbox One and PS4 is like asking the car dealer if they’re pile of garbage is a good car.

Been playing Nintendo pretty much since day one but they havent been competing since the ps1 when you compare game library’s. Ever Playstation Gen far outshines my Nintendo library’s , all Nintendo does is sail on past glory with Mario Bros 32 , Zelda and thats it really, I love metroid but the last good entry was prime 3 wich is ages ago, Smash bros gets boring after 3 games spamming only 4 buttons or so. I remember the days when Rare was with Nintendo and they actually made great franchises and had all the amazing third party like Mega Man, Double Dragon , Castlevania , Streetfighter and many more.
Zelda is my nr1 franchise and it always has been but i’m not buying a shitty home console for just one game. Ill borrow it of someone else soon.

Ps1 and ps2 were successful due to the plethora of middle tier games.
That’s kinda died on all platforms. It’s just big budget AAA game or indie game. It’s more of an industry problem vs a Nintendo exclusive problem.
I agree that the PS3 and PS4 has less middle tier games probally also cause games are more expansive to make these days and cost more time , still my Ps3 and in the end PS4 easily provide 30-40 solid games all scoring 8-10 (maby even 8,5-10) for what thats worth.
