Rumour: Square Enix Apparently Really Wants Kingdom Hearts 3 On Nintendo Switch

A rumour has popped up that you may have seen this afternoon and it is regarding Square Enix and their upcoming Xbox One and PlayStation 4 extravaganza, Kingdom Hearts 3. A YouTube channel titled DreamcastGuy says that the company apparently really wants to get the game up and running on Nintendo Switch. If this is indeed legitimate then it sounds like they might be investigating cloud streaming options like Capcom has done with Resident Evil 7 on Nintendo Switch and Ubisoft has done with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, both of which are streamed to the Nintendo Switch via your internet connection.

      1. I dont, this is really not that logical, you’re trying to telle me, doom and the next doom can run on switch, but kingdom hearts 3, a cartoon-rpg running with unreal engine, cant be toned down and run on switch? this is crazy.

      2. DOOM runs on the Switch, that means every single new game, regardless of scale and complexity, must be running perfectly well on it too.
        Flawless logic.

      3. More likely a scaled down version than a streaming one. Unlike the current 2 streaming on Switch (RE7 & Assassins Creed Odyssey, both using custom in house engines that might not work well on Switch hardware), Kingdom Hearts 3 uses Unreal Engine 4 (engine that works fine on Switch).

      1. @ Law

Of course, if it was running at 320p on Switch, the frame rate would likely be over 100.
My guess is they could squeeze out 60fps at 720p, or perhaps 1080p at 30fps. I’d be fine with both.

    1. Instead of worrying about bringing Kingdom Hearts 3 to switch, how about starting with Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 collections.

Also, to the topic, I really doubt it’s gonna be streaming, that was an absurd jump in logic to take not even remotely supported by anything in this article.

  2. Well, figure this out and make an announcement guys because I have the deluxe edition for PS4 on preorder and I’m not going to walk from it on “maybe we’ll release it on Switch, we’re not sure how).

  3. I’m a little ignorant on cloud streaming and such, so how exactly would that help KH3 come to Switch? I’m curious.

    1. Instead of your game being processed in the box next to your tv, like a traditional console or home computer, your game is processed over on Square Enix’s computers, and the data is sent back to you via the internet to be put on your tv. Hypothetically, it means that the power of your gaming system is not a limiting factor to what you can play, though it has some significant drawbacks.

      1. You’re adding an extra loop in the chain before what you do goes on screen. Instead of you pressing a button, your console deciding on the result, and displaying that on screen, you’re sending the data halfway across the world, and they’re sending that info back to your console, who sends it to the screen. So you need a very good internet connection to not run into lag issues.

      2. Since their servers are doing all the actual processing, years from now whenever those servers go down, you no longer have a game.

      3. Anyone who likes hard copies is out of luck, as there’s less than zero reason to print a game onto a cartridge with basically no data on it, since everything about the game is stored on the company’s servers, not in the box you would buy at retail.

    1. Unless if you have a LAN adapter connected to your docking unit, you would have absolutely no problem whatsoever.

      1. True, if it’s even a real thing, I was thinking what if it’s just a Switch with a d-pad joycon 😅. In that case I hope they sell that joy on separate. I kinda am hoping for a Switch with a power boost though because MP4 and Bayonetta would definitely benefit from it for sure.

              1. Haha, yeah it’s probably wishful thinking to expect much more than that.. guess we’ll see when it comes out. Hopefully till then ppl aren’t expecting to much to where they put off buying a Switch cuz they think there’s a more powerful version incoming.

  4. How about a dedicated port?🙄 This game doesn’t look THAT special, that it can’t run directly on the Switch.

    1. It’s running on Unreal Engine 4, so it shouldn’t be an issue to get it running on Switch. I would definitely take a port over a cloud-based game stream.

  5. I hate the idea of streaming games like this, I want to physically own my games thank you, this is even worse then Downloadable only, it’s a joke and lazy af

    1. This is the reason why you need a MIcroSD XC Memory Card to add more of the required data in order to play a game. Look at Doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, LA Noir, NBA 2K19, etc.

  6. CAN WE STOP WITH THE BS PLEASE any game i existence can run on a switch ENOUGH WITH THE HORSE ZHIT.. THERE IS NO STORY GAMEPLAY MECHANIC AND ART STYLE THE SWITCH cannot do THATS A LOGICAL FACT

    grow up

    1. Yeah, I’m tired of these lazy devs not porting things to run on my N64. It’s perfectly capable of running this game. It’s all a scam to make me buy more “powerful” hardware. The developers and hardware companies are in cahoots. CAHOOTS I TELL YOU!

      1. Didn’t you say 320p at 20fps before? Are those real factd?

Anywho, The 3DS has a resolution of 800 x 240 and the switch is capable of 1080p. Not sure what your source is, but I think their judgement is of. They obviously don’t understand resolutions or technological advancement.

  7. Honestly, if we think about it, how much of the KH series was on Nintendo systems already? CoM, ReCoded, 358/2 Days, and DDD. Sony had KH1, KH2, and BBS (so far) before they did the re: CoM. I think it would be AT LEAST fair for the Switch to get the upcoming “The Story So Far” bundle before trying to cram KH3 on there

  8. “then it sounds like they might be investigating cloud streaming options like Capcom has done with Resident Evil 7 on Nintendo Switch and Ubisoft has done with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey”

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I’d rather not having the game at all than having this cloud-garbage.

Seriously, S-E: KH3 runs on UE4. It’s a question of retooling it. DOOM and DOOM: Eternal, which are more demanding games runs/will run on the Switch.

Make a real job, at once.

  9. I wouldn’t care if we get it later,a port of KH3 on Switch would be AMAZING.My Internet connection sucks,I’ve never tried thoses cloud versions of games, but it sounds like a bad idea

  10. Ahh Yeah!! If they wanna make a shit load of money!! Lol, they would make good money on PS4 & XBOX 1X but imagine the sales with the SWITCH as well!!
& Please! No more of that “it’s graphically impossible to put our game on NINTENDO’S weaker system” garbage either!!! Put the game on the SWITCH & watch sales blow through the roof!!!

  11. I always thought that Kingdom Hearts belonged on Nintendo consoles. But I’m not a fan of this cloud stuff. So it looks like I’ll just buy the PS4 versions of everything that’s cloud-based (and digital) on the Switch. Though I really should play the first two games before buying the third. I have the HD versions on PS3, but I never got around to playing them due to having SO many other games.
