Capcom Aiming To Release 3 Major Games Every Fiscal Year

Update: Taken out Octopath as it clearly wasn’t by Capcom, but Square Enix! My apologies.

Capcom has informed investors and consumers that it plans to release around three major games every fiscal year. These will be its AAA games such as Monster Hunter and Resident Evil etc. Of course they will also release smaller titles etc, but the company also wants to release three AAA each fiscal year. Here’s what was said in the latest Capcom Report.

“Specifically, new titles [Diagram 1-A] will work as growth drivers as we (1) release approximately three major titles each year, (2) extend the sales life of these titles to 3–4 years with additional content and pricing strategies and (3) strengthen our presence overseas, which comprises approximately 85% of the total market.”

    1. Capcom has been doing pretty well lately, for the most part. RE7, MH World, and Mega Man 11 are all great. The upcoming RE2 remake and DMC5 also look solid. You do know Capcom has multiple dev teams, right? Sure, MvC infinite was rushed, but I’d put more of that blame on Marvel.

    2. What are you talking about? This isn’t the same Capcom that only did watered down games from the 2010’s. I’d say the Capcom we are dealing with recently is a completely reformed Capcom that’s been putting out nothing but quality in these recent times. If it were 6 games a year, I’d be worried, but 3 games a year isn’t bad at all.

      1. Not even Nintendo makes 3 AAA games every year. And no, games like Xenoblade and Bayonetta etc. don’t count because they are 2nd party. And you absolutely don’t understand what Capcom is saying here. They don’t say “We open new studios and hire more people to make more quality games every year”. They just say “We will release games more frequently than we used to”, which means every major game will have less development time and less ressources (money and poeple). Nintendo has proved with releases like Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW that the secret behind quality games is “take as much time and ressourcces as you need”. Unless Capcom also decides to spend proportionally more money on games, this is bad news. You are naive if you think Capcom could have made more quality games all along, they just chose not to do so until now. Everything comes at a cost. I hope they pay it with money and not by compromising quality. The new DMC already looks like it has been compromised by adding micro transactions. Reviews will show if this decision has an impact on quality.

          1. Doesn’t matter. It’s not developed by Nintendo, that’s what I meant. Monolith Soft have their own employees, money etc. So if they make a game it’s them, not Nintendo.

  1. I can’t wait for this train wreck of a plan to crash and burn, hopefully this will cause Crapcom to go out of business and perhaps a better developer will buy their IPs and do right by them, like the BoF and Darkstalker series for example!

  2. Clearly this means new Ghosts n’ Goblins and a Maximo HD collection right? Also physical releases of Ace Attorney 5 and 6? Yes. That simply must be what it is. It couldn’t possibly be that they’re going to “Assassin’s Creed” their current AAA games to oblivion. That would be idiotic.

  3. They aren’t saying these games will be brand new so I’d like to think some of these will be HD remasters. Resident Evil Code Veronica and Nemesis could be next to get remakes once they finish up Resident Evil 2 remake IF they aren’t already working on them.
