Digital Foundry’s latest project has seen them delve into the world of Luigi’s Mansion on the Nintendo 3DS. As you know, it is a remake of the beloved GameCube launch title on Nintendo’s dedicated handheld. The team at Digital Foundry have come away extremely impressed with the port by Grezzo and concludes by saying that “A lot of care and attention has gone into the game and it’s beautifully executed overall. “Grezzo has done a tremendous job in adapting the game to Nintendo’s aging portable system and in the end, has produced one of the best-looking games on the system. The controls are also well implemented. If you’re playing on a New 3DS, you get to use the nub just like the right stick on GameCube but this time, it can actually be inverted. You can also use the gyro feature to aim your vacuum up and down across all versions of 3DS hardware.”
“So, if you haven’t played Luigi’s Mansion or it’s been a while since you’ve played it this is a fantastic way to jump in. It’s a strange little conversion that almost feels like a side-make rather than a port – a game which makes changes to fit the hardware that often wind up looking better than the original even if it falls short in certain areas. If you’re still playing on 3DS, I’d recommend checking this one out – a lot of care and attention has gone into the game and it’s beautifully executed overall.”
I definitely have to agree, they did a fantastic job with this port.
But it does make me wonder what other GameCube games could be ported to the 3DS. It would be pretty impressive if they were able to port games like Super Mario Sunshine or Kirby’s Air Ride.
Would rather have GC games on Switch. The first that comes to my mind is Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, since it’s so extremly expensive to get a physical copy, it’s never been re-released, and it’s a fantastic game; one of the best Fire Emblem and undeniable one of GC’s best games.
Eternal Darkness and Baten Kaitos 1+Origins needs to be on Switch, too. Tons of GCN games need to be on Switch. With HD remasters!
Indeed! One of my favorite systems of all time. The Thousand-Year Door HD would beat the cr*p out of every Paper Mario released after it.
Which reminds me. There are quite a few N64 games that could do with getting remakes. Hell! There’s tons of games from that entire gen of gaming (and not just on N64) that could do with remakes. Most of those games did not age well at all in the looks department.
