Nintendo has shared some good news today and its that the Nintendo Switch system has now sold 22.86 million units since launch till September 30th 2018. This means that the system has already beaten lifetime sales of the beloved Nintendo GameCube. The platform has easily beaten the Wii U as well, as it only sold 13.56 million units. Kotaku reports that Nintendo plans to sell 20 million Switch units in this financial year. So far the Kyoto-based company has sold 5.07 million between April and September. If Nintendo achieves this target then it will beat the Nintendo 64 lifetime sales which are at 32.93 million units. The company’s Nintendo 3DS has sold 73.53 million units.
Watch out beloved Nintendo consoles! The switch is going to pass you all!
I’d say I’m shocked but the Gamecube did horrible compared to the PS2, so it’s not a surprise. Like the N64 before it, you didn’t need to own a Gamecube, you just needed to know someone who did, as most of the great games that were played regularly were multiplayer.
Everything that generation did poorly compared to the PS2 to be fair.
Yeah that’s true. :P
Which never made sense because I hated the PS2. It wasn’t until the PS3 that I started loving the Playstation.
I know VGChartz isn’t the most reliable, but in a similar time span, according to VGChartz, the PS4 sold 22.4 Million units and Xbox One sold 12.5 Million units.

Something Furukawa should know: I don’t have a Switch myself and won’t be getting my hands on one until it’s announced that the system has a new Mario Kart game with 16 or 20 NEW Nitro and Retro Tracks being in development for it like with every other Nintendo System. Once it is, Iwata’s Ghost will be smiling, and Port Despisers like myself will stop despising these Switch Ports of Wii U games upon learning that they’re not being chosen instead of new games for Particular Franchises.
These are the franchises that have new games on each and every Nintendo System of which should always remain that way:
*Mainstream Mario games both 2D and 3D
*Mario Kart
*Mario Party
*Mario RPGs
*Smash Bros.
*Zelda
*Kirby
*Pokemon
*Games dedicated to the Miis
*Particular 3rd Party Franchises
IMAGINE BUYING A CONSOLE WITH A 100X MORE UNCOMFORTABLE CONTROLER

gamecube uterly shat-on ps2 my all time hated systems are ps1 and ps2 utter garbage consoles
metroid prime ws like 2x fps and 3 x graphocs of anything ever on ps2 and every gc dolphine hd emulated gamecube game utterly destroys anything on xbox or ps2 in hd
metorid prime at 1080p looks like a 360 game ps2 was a ABBOMINATION
15 millions before 31. March? Well, it is holiday season in front of us, but it will be an achievement if they can manage that.
Honestly, I was expecting the overall sales for Switch to be at around 25m by now. Anyway, the Switch has outdone Gamecube in the console sales department so congrats. That said, the Switch still has a ways to go before it surpasses the enjoyment I had with the Gamecube.
We’ll the Gamecube had it’s 5 years and the switch has had only 2…
Mario Odyssey and BOTW have already surpassed their gamecube counterparts…
Throw in Xenoblade and hopefully Yoshi and Metroid Prime 4… I think it will reach the GC joy factor and maybe surpass it.
But man, I sure loved the Gamecube more than the Switch. I think the Gamecube is the most underrated Nintendo console. Though, surprisingly, I can’t believe how dark and grainy the Gamecube’s graphics are when I play it now. I can tell my eyes are adjusted to HD, high resolution graphics.
GameCube(most underrated console)>Switch(most overrated console)
