First Trailer For Pokemon Detective Pikachu Movie

The time has come to get a glimpse of the intriguing Pokemon Detective Pikachu Movie. Warner Bros unleashed a two-minute glimpse of what to expect from the film which is sure to get some attention when it arrives in cinemas next May. Here’s what Warner Bros has to say about the dark and gritty thriller.

The world of Pokémon comes to life! The first-ever live-action Pokémon movie, “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character in the first-ever live-action movie based on the iconic face of the global Pokémon brand—one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and most successful media franchises of all time. Fans everywhere can now experience Pikachu on the big screen as never before, as a talking detective Pikachu, a Pokémon like no other.

The film also showcases a wide array of beloved Pokémon characters, each with its own unique abilities and personality. The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

“POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” also stars Justice Smith (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”) as Tim; Kathryn Newton (“Lady Bird,” TV’s “Big Little Lies”) as Lucy, a junior reporter following her first big story; and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe (“Godzilla,” “The Last Samurai”) as Lt. Yoshida. Directed by Rob Letterman (“Goosebumps,” “Monsters Vs. Aliens”), the “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” creative filmmaking team includes two-time Oscar nominated director of photography John Mathieson (“The Phantom of the Opera,” “Gladiator”), production designer Nigel Phelps (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Lies”) and Oscar-winning editor Mark Sanger (“Gravity”). Visual effects are by Moving Picture Company (“Wonder Woman”) and Framestore (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”).

Launched in 1996 to overwhelming response, the Pokémon brand is a global sensation that now encompasses a robust video gaming fandom with over 300 million units sold worldwide; the Pokémon Trading Card Game available in 11 languages with more than 23.6 billion cards shipped; an animated television series in its 21st season that is available in more than 160 countries; and over 20 animated films; as well as books, manga comics, music, toys, merchandise, and apps, including the wildly popular Pokémon GO, that has been downloaded over 850 million times and is enjoyed across the globe by fans of all ages. “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” is set for release on Friday, May 10, 2019.

  1. WHY IS PIKACHU DOING DEAD POLL JOKES another idiot payed way to much for terrible writing lets take something hollywood the hell outa it then deliver it to the public with all the other trash IS THAT THE BEST THEY COULD DO

    1. your comment has been done do death and is unoriginal, i get it, you dont like Ryan Reynolds or Dead Pool, ranting about it doesn’t make it better, its like me ranting about how i don’t like our orange president because no one will care. also if you don’t like the idea of the film nor the actor then don’t watch it, i on the other hand will solely for Dead Pool/Ryan Reynolds and also because i am curious about the film and how it will turn out, i know for sure that it wont win against Infinity War pt.2 and canon Broly the movie.

      1. DEAD POOL HUMOR IN POKEMON DEFEND THAT YOU HAVE ZERO RIGHT TO CRITICISES ANYTHING

SOOOOOOOOOO edgy not totally unoriginal to any sANE not MILLENNIAL your gen are braindead i can go get 100 movies doing the EXACT SAME THING

  2. its ryan renolds isnt it actually as the pokemon HOW ORIGINAL “”””””””””not”””” and his humour is 1D as hell and really old and grating now

      1. You’re seriously cancer on this website aren’t you? How many Detective Pikachu posters do you have hanging in your bedroom, I wonder…. Other people can have opinions. Stop clearly showing everyone you’re under the age of 15.

      1. lmao, stop bitching on everyone’s comment. We get it already, you actually like this garbage, shut up already fanboy.

      2. London… I don’t remember asking you a Goddamn thing. You’re too fucking salty because this trailer alone is the #1 trending on YouTube… over 8 million views in less than a day. Quit being a dick already and move the fuck on!

      3. He can have an opinion about it, just as you do. He’s not even being salty about it like that Alan character. I agree with Michael. So much potential for a Pokémon Movie of the original series, and this is the first film we receive? Overall the animation looks great and exactly what you’d hope for….. and then Pikachu opens his fucking mouth. I’m sorry, Ryan Reynolds? I don’t see Pikachu at all…. just Deadpool. You already KNOW Deadpool 3 is gonna have a reference to this.

  3. This trailer actually has me pretty excited! It’s a lot better than I thought it would be! Count me in as cautiously optimistic!

  4. The Deadpool form of comedy is just so incredibly shitty… It’s like watching some loser go try-hard to make dick jokes and then pathetically laugh at his own jokes by himself. This movie was a terrible idea to begin with. Nonetheless, I just hope Hollywood stays as far away from Metroid as possible, just no.

    1. London Dick… You need to quit being a fucking douche-back. If you hate movies, then shut the fuck up and get a life– which, I believe, you no longer have.

      1. Lmfao, tells someone else to “get a life” just because they don’t like watching garbage, yet gets emotional and responds to everyone’s hate comments about the film as if that’s the only life he’s got……..The Irony here is astounding…

      1. I just feel like the decision was made because he’s hot now from starring in the Deadpool movies recently. The decision to cast him doesn’t come from a place of finding the best choice for Pikachu. Someone more gruff would have been both funnier and closer to the game.

          1. He’s “meh” I don’t like his voice or all of his humor. Also he’s so distinct sounding and reknown as the voice of Deadpool that its all anyone hears. Its Deadpool as Pikachu. I don’t mind him as Deadpool at all. Fine role for him but as Pikachu its annoying to hear him. Its all anyone hears and a guy with a more gruff sound would have been better for the role. So yah. I don’t think he’s the best pick for the role. He’s okay but they could have gone from “ok” to “great” but the creators wanted “star power” moreso.

  6. Is it me, or is there too much fur. Both on the Jigglypuff and the Charizard.

Also, Ryan Reynolds? I would have preferred a gruffer voice, like the game had.

Other then that, it doesn’t look bad.

      1. The Pokemon company has been of course working very close with the studio. If that’s how jigglypuff looks in the movie, that’s how it was always imagined.

    1. Stop you can’t just say that or the SJWs that attacked Mr Game and Watch will come for you! Nowadays if you swap a character who is suppose to be white for a black one they’ll say “skin color doesn’t matter, just the actor’s work”, but if you swap a black for a white One, DAMN, “Fucking whitewashing, how dare you!!!”. It’s completly retarded to me, it looks like being white is a crime nowadays

      1. A Native American making a valid criticism of their own representation isn’t an “sjw”.

I swear “sjw” is just code word for minorities, lgbt, etc just having an opinion. Just say you wish minorities would shut. It would be more honest.

No one is effected by the removal of some fucking feather. Its no big deal but it was nice and considerate of Nintendo to do for some of their fans and literally effects no one else who isn’t Native. Like did any if you losers legit care about some game and watch reference from nineteen dickety two? Non of you guys even had game and watches. Shut up.

  7. Ryan as Pikachu 6/10 (could have been better, but not upset…..deadpool is Pikachu, I’m amused 🤣)

Realistic Pokemon 9/10 still a bit cartoon, but Pikachu is perfect

Story….for children and that’s fine, but ill enjoy it since iv been waiting since Pokemon came out, for a realistic movie. Supporting it will lead to more content. And more Nintendo movies. I hope they make a Metroid live action, and star fox

  8. Just as I suspected. They did EVERYTHING wrong with this movie. Of all movies, they do THIS to it. It should have been based on Ash Ketchum getting his first Pokemon, and featuring Misty and Brock. It should have followed the anime. Oh well, every movie based on video games is crap compared to what the games are really like. I didn’t really expect this to be any different, and I was right. But man, if they were going to make Pikachu talk, couldn’t they have at LEAST gave him a kid’s voice?

    1. Hell no. The anime is a piece of literal crap with NotRed doing everything wrong and never winning a league, Brock being a pervert and butt-monkey of butt-pinches and Misty being a complete bitch about everything.

And Pikachu on the Detective Pikachu game doesn’t talk like a kid, too. So tough luck.

Actually this trailer was better than I expected.

    2. Its better to do a self contained story for a first film than run with an idea clearly designed for a long running series off the bat. Like how messy would the pacing be for a film that has to show plenty of Pokemon scenes, various gym battles, elite four, fights against team Rocket, AND have some kind of development or scenes for the main character and his traveling friends!?

Having a self contained mystery story with side kick Pikachu (one that can also talk for some banter) works well enough in the time span.

      1. Not to mention moviegoers don’t want to go through a couple of movies of the main character going through a hero’s journey only to lose at the end of said journey. Imagine if Luke Skywalker died at the end of Return of the Jedi: people would have lost their shit.

    3. No, this is better. 1) this movie is clearly made for old fans who grew up with Pokemon and want to share it with kids. So the humor will be mixed. (it’s the Pixar formula…..perfect)
      2) we have heard the ash story to death and its boring. This is a clean and simple story. It’s not supposed to really be about the game, it’s supposed to be easy to make into a movie. And that’s why the Pokemon company went with it. In other words, detective Pikachu the game was made for a movie….and so it is.
      3) this is outside the world of training and battles, this can build mythology without fight/catch/fight/catch/fight exe. This is a story…..and its fairly mature looking. Pokemon is a world, not the legacy of ash cetchem.

  9. This looks great. I was worried about this movie, but this has made me a bit more optimistic. Sadly, this trailer came out on the same day Stan Lee passed away, so I have mixed emotions for today.

Hopefully this movie will shoot it out of the park and give Nintendo more confidence in making live action movies of their properties. If it does well, Legendary Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, and Toho need to create a company together that is strictly for making Nintendo movies.

    1. The problem is the relationship between Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment didn’t go hand in hand during the filming process of this picture. So they’ve parted ways and Legendary is now working in cooperation with Warner Bros. Pictures.

  10. …..Pikachu looks different, but he fits in, even though in Smash he doesn’t have rendered fur when the other Pokémon does…meanwhile Mario’s mustache isn’t rendered, when it was in odyssey, although Yoshi has an alt that gives more details… concurrently in Let’s go Pikachu none of the Pokémon has fur given the difference in art style…… *has an existential crisis*
