The NPD Group which tracks sales throughout the United States say that sales of Pokemon: Let’s GO, Pikachu and Eevee! are very positive. The news comes from Mat Piscatella via Twitter. He says that views on Twitch are astounding and that it is one of the most important game releases on the year. Hopefully sales numbers will be announced by the Pokemon Company soon so we can see just how big an impact the game is having for the company and Nintendo.
“Lots of positivity and optimism around Pokemon: Let’s Go, including leading in Twitch viewership. Initial read of ancillary metrics a bit better than I’d anticipated. All good signs.”
“From a total gaming market outlook perspective, Pokemon: Let’s Go is the most important launch of the year. Initial response being as positive as it is, well, it’s a bit of a relief to be honest. We’ll have to see how sales go through December and into the new year.”
Gotta love no actual numbers, instead rhetoric like “very positive”. Sounds like when Nintendo was commenting how their online user service subscription “met expectations”, yet never gave actual numbers…
It’s been out for two days. How precise of numbers are you expecting?
It’s NPD, not Nintendo. He has no horse in the race.
So, it takes a while for NPD to actually get any numbers. Essentially, this analyst is saying that the OTHER non-sales variables that tend to be high when game sales are high, are very high for Pokemon, which indicates high sales. He’s saying the proxy variables for sales are all we can look at right now, not sales themselves. Using those proxies, it seems like its having a great launch. That’s my read on this language as an economic analyst myself.
They’ll have better numbers this Friday most likely; a week after launch is usually when they have those numbers. Even then that won’t account for digital sales.
They’ve actually been tracking most digital Sales for a while now. They have sent exceptions, but do track them for NA at least.

At the very least we know it did not flop, and average sales or greater!
So probably 1.5 million+ within 3 days.
I hope this all pays off and gets more Switches on peoples hands.
