NPD: “Super Mario Party Is Now The Third Fastest Selling Mario Party Game In History, Trailing Only Mario Party & Mario Party 8”

There wasn’t much Nintendo hardware news that came from today’s NPD data release, but there was something noteworthy for fans of the newest entry in the Mario Party series. According to the NPD report, “over each title’s first two months in market, Super Mario Party is now the third fastest selling Mario Party game in history, trailing only Mario Party and Mario Party 8.

      1. Mario Party 8 is disliked. It only sold well because it has Mario in the title and I’m pretty sure there weren’t many games that were multiplayer focused for the Wii at the time. Just look at some of the average review scores it got.

So just because it was a top selling Mario Party game doesn’t mean it’s good. It just means it sold more than other installments in the series.

      2. “Mario Party 8 is disliked. It only sold well because it has Mario in the title” Every single Mario Party game falls into that. Just because you don’t enjoy it, doesn’t mean it was the most hated.

      3. I never said it was the most hated (that would probably got to Mario Party 10), all I said was it was disliked. Don’t know where you got that from.

And yes, it is true that having Mario in the title could have benefited every other Mario Party sales wise, Which means you agree that having Mario in the title did help Mario Party 8 with its sales. There’s also the fact that it was the first Mario Party game on the Wii, like Ramon Pinho mentioned.

There’s also the possible lack of multiplayer games at the time too, but you probably already knew that from reading my last comment.

      4. Every game is disliked by some people.

Again, this applies to every MP game, not just MP8.

      5. I think you need to read the second part of my latest comment more thoroughly because I was actually agreeing with you that having Mario in the title could have helped with sales for other Mario Party games. As in, I know it doesn’t only apply to Mario Party 8.

        I don’t know how that wasn’t plain to see…

      6. Saying “Again, this applies to every MP game, not just MP8.” when the comment you were quoting was agreeing with you that having Mario in the title could have also helped with the sales of every other Mario Party isn’t misreading?

      7. You mean the one where I agree with you and say that having Mario in the title could also be the reason why every other Mario Party sold well too?

Is that suddenly not true, should I have not agreed with what you said or something?

Or do you still think that the number of sales equals the quality of a game because that’s still not true.

Or are you referring to the beginning of my second comment where I said that Mario Party 8 sold well because it has Mario in the title? I’m still pretty sure it did play a part in its sales.

Or that Mario Party 8 was disliked. Which is true. The mixed reviews it got say it all really. (And yes, I know some people like it)

Those are the only four points I saw that could be considered invalid. And If you weren’t talking about any of those points, then I don’t know what to tell you since I basically have to guess what you’re talking about instead of you just telling me outright.

    1. Because the majority of the Wii owners were casual players, the system had one of the largest userbases out of any of the Nintendo systems with only the DS beating it, and it was a good game to play with friends. It was the perfect game for the system’s audience.

      1. If there is something wrong with you for liking what most people hate, I guess there is something wrong with me, too, as I enjoyed The Last Jedi, Super Mario Bros The Movie, the Resident Evil movies, the Doom movie that was basically just Resident Evil with Doom’s monsters taking place in a lab in space instead of a lab underground, etc.

As long as we aren’t dissing people for what they like/love or dislike/hate, there is nothing wrong with us.

  1. If it’s not Mario Party 1, 2, or 3, it’s trash. Sales doesn’t automatically make something a good game. Even bad movies and games can make a nice little penny and can also still be fun and entertaining. *cough*TheLastJedi*cough*EA’sStarWarsBattlefront*cough*

  2. I’m shocked Super Mario Party was one of the first Mario Party games to be in the same sells point as OG Mario Party and Mario Party 8. Must be a rare time where people did buy this game and has become a hit. lol
