Google recently released their Project Stream service in a very limited beta to see how it would hold up streaming Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says that he has tried it but said that there was some lag which he understands gamers would be frustrated about. However, he says the Kyoto-based company is looking closely at it.
“We’re certainly observing everything that’s happening in the western markets form a streaming technology standpoint. I myself have tried the Google experience, and so it’s something that absolutely we’re all looking at. In the end though, it has to be a great experience for the consumer, and the Google experience that I had, there’s a bit of lag, and when that happens, as a consumer, you get frustrated,” he said.
I really don’t like streaming games.
I really have to agree, I tried streaming Sonic Adventure on the PS4 and the small dips in connection are very obnoxious.
It’s like some kind of freak bizzaro, topsy turvy land in here!
LOL they gotta be joking! Not even online games run smooth, and they only “stream” game data. Imagine how bad games run when they not only stream player input, but the whole video and audio output as well. Even worse: The only point of streaming games is so that you get good graphics on weak hardware, but every video feed is heavily compressed and in the end your game will look worse than if rendered on your device. Especially in scenes with alot of effects and movement.
Doesn’t mean that Nintendo shouldn’t keep an eye on it. Especially with upcoming cellular data technology.
Til the internet infrastructure is fixed in the United States, I’m against streaming video games. Even if my internet is working fine (for the most part), others might not be so fortunate. That and streaming 1080 HD and 4K videos on Youtube and the PlayStation Store suffer from some bad lag so I’d hate to try streaming a video game in HD and 4K.
So with streaming they don’t want to frustrate people. Cool.
How about applying that to Switch online as well? *ba dum tsss*
Reggie just did a sick burn to Project Steam. He basically said, told them, they suck!
`there was some lag which he understands gamers would be frustrated about.` … yeah… breath of the wild didnt have ANY lag at all at the deku tree

@valter kittler yea that mist have just been you. I have never lagged on any game with my switch and have owned it from initial release.

No, actually, it wasn’t just him. Quite a number of people brought that issue up. Even I had that issue. Maybe they improved it with an update later on and you had said update on yours.

I wish they’d look at things Xbox does right closely.
I’ve been playing 100+ hours, noticeable lag total time probably somewhere around a minute? This services is fantastic, and the game is amazing. It is awesome to play right from a chrome tab and not have to listen to my video card wheeze. I’ve played AC, ACII, ACII Brotherhood, ACBlack Flag, AC Rogue, so I’m not a novice to the series either.
