  1. Wow, just wow. Pokemon annihilated. Still Pokemon should be considered a success in my opinion (sales), but they should add some challenge to let grown up people enjoy it (it also got rated lower than 3DS episodes, uhm). I’m having fun with Red, but that old game isn’t excessively easy.
Incredible sales with the hardware too.

    1. Pokémon got off lightly compared to other titles. Zelda, a launch game, outsold in a single week. 2/3 of the way to Odyssey and MK8D in just a week, when those games have been out for over a year. Splatoon…ok, Splatoon is just godly popular in Japan, all hail Splatoon.

Pokémon given it’s only a few weeks old comes out with reasonable credit – you wouldn’t expect a spin-off (and the fans have decided it’s a spin-off, even if Game Freak try to say otherwise) to come close to Smash really.

      1. I don’t really think it’s a spin off, it’s same old mechanics. Sales aren’t low like Pokken. It’s definitely not a spin-off, more like a restart. It’s not an issue to have more options about Pokemon games if quality stays high.

  2. Look at all the people just waiting to buy a Switch when Smash released. Only way to explain why the likes of Splatoon and Minecraft are near the top.

    1. Maybe for Minecraft, which is always a consistent seller, but Splatoon 2 has been around the top 5 ever since it launched, which is why it has sold 2.7 million copies overall. It’s very popular in Japan.

  3. What a freaking debut for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch. Over 1.2 million copies sold in Japan alone. Not only that, the Switch units have sold nearly tripled! There’s a possibility that the Switch may outsell the vanilla PS4 (in lifetime sales) in their native country alone. Let’s hope they continue that trend next week.

Comparisons aside, kudos and respects to both Nintendo and Sony for making video games great once again!

  4. I knew Smash Ultimate would have an immediate impact in Japan but this is insanely ridiculous. 281,222 units sold? Man the Switch is killing it in Japan. It’s gonna be crazy to see how Smash Ultimate did in the US since it’s normally the country it sells the best in
