Iizuka Says He Wouldn’t Mind Remaking Sonic Adventure

Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka has said in a recent interview with Retro Gamer that he wouldn’t mind remaking fan-favourite Sonic Adventure. He told the magazine that he can now see the rough edges in Sonic’s 3D debut and that it would be fun to rework it with modern day hardware. Sonic Adventure made its debut on the SEGA Dreamcast.

“It was the first highspeed 3D action game that also featured a scenario highlighted with six different stories, the A-life Chao, six unique styles of gameplay – it is a unique game offering even 20 years after its release. At the time, it also wasn’t just a solitary software release, it was the title to bring people to the Dreamcast and we were given the budget to make something to showcase the hardware. However, it was the very first 3D game that we worked on and looking at it now I can see the rough edges it has, which really makes me want to remake it again.”

  1. Please do.
A Sonic Adventure 3 is likely not going to happen; it’s been long overdue and the request has been falling onto deaf ears. I would honestly be fine and hyped for a remake of both Adventure games, maybe even merge them and call it
“Super Sonic Adventure” or something. Just bring back and retain those great features everyone loves, maybe even add more, like online play for ChaoGarden/Normal play, along with New cutscenes, HD graphics etc etc…

    1. It’s because Iizuka would said he sees it as a “step backwards” from the modern games, which is ironic because I see the modern games as a step backwards compared to what the old 3D games had to offer. Different characters to play as with their own unique playstyles, different viewpoints of the story, less cheesy dialogue, etc. I don’t even see why it’s still even a request, too much time has passed and a third game now would feel too different to appease the Adventure fans.

      1. Yeah it seems like your right. Sonic Adventure 3 won’t be a thing anything time soon since many Sonic fans has been asking for it a while ago since Sonic Boom was announced for both systems. i have a theory that there will be another 3D Sonic Adventure be announced in March 2019.

    1. I agree.
Even though I think Sonic Team CAN make a good Sonic game every once in a while, I don’t think they’d be a good fit for a remake of any of the classic games.

Christian Whitehead on the other hand (if not some other dedicated studio) could come up with remakes that are on par with Crash N’Sane Trilogy and Spyro: Reignited Trilogy.

    2. Christian Whitehead spent years working on 2D sonic games which is why Sonic Mania turned out so well. Sonic Adventure is a completely different style of game to the 2D ones so he would be of little use for a remake of that. For the same reasons the guy who made AM2R could make an awesome remake of Super Metroid but would be completely out of his depth for a Metroid Prime one.

  2. Sonic adventure was my childhood, but if they’re going to bring it back, they need to make sure they focus on the momentum platforming aspect and keep the real world setting like the originals too.

It’d be a shame if they once again hired the same writers as the recent games, and made everything super childish and not even trying with the story.

But honestly, as long as they take the adventure gameplay and polish and refine it, I won’t even care about that last point.

  3. Can we REALLY trust these guys to do this right? Because so far only Sonic Mania has been a return to form. And as far as I’m concerned, one right doesn’t make up for all the wrongs they did & are still doing. *cough*SonicForcesbeingshort&misusingInfinite*cough*theSonicmovietheyarelettingParamountmake*cough*

          1. Well, some people are not if you ask me because Nintendo did not listen to there fans about a new Kid Icarus game and a new F-zero game. I’m afraid there demands is just going to keep some fans unhappy.

  4. If it was done right, this would be amazing. I always heavily preferred the first Adventure game to the second one. A remake could fix some of the problems it has from aging (cuz it really hasn’t aged well).
