Nintendo Officially Confirms You Can Play As Blue Toad In New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

If you picked up a copy of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe today, you may have noticed that one of the original playable characters isn’t displayed by default. However, Nintendo has officially confirmed that the lovable Blue Toad is indeed featured in the newly-released port. To play as him, press and hold the L Button while you have Yellow Toad highlighted when selecting characters. It’s as simple as that!

  1. We already knew before they announced it. Just like we know what to probably not expect in the next direct. “Cough” MP4 “cough” bayanetta
I take it no direct in jan now?

      1. Everyone knows what mp4 is.
It can be used for Mario party too coz at the moment it will be mp10 and so on, and prime obviously mp4 and then mp5 in about 25yrs time. ( maybe )

    1. Haha. I couldn’t agree more. It’s been customary for Nintendo to hold a Direct, especially for welcoming the New Year. It’s not only Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4. There are rumors saying that a new Mario Maker, a Nintendo Land comeback, and a DLC for Super Mario Odyssey is coming. Nintendo better give us the treats worth our waiting.

  2. I feel Nintendo made a mistake in replacing Blue Toad for Toadette… Blue Toad has been a member of the squad since the NES days in Super Mario Bros. 2 and again on Wii U in Super Mario 3D World so now that Toadette is a substitute for Peach it would make perfect sense to replace the Yellow Toad instead and getting back the Mario Luigi Peach(ette) Blue Toad squad back together in a game! Yellow Toad should have been the secret character, not Blue Toad, i think this was an oversight from the developers…

    1. “But not everyone owned a Wii U! Maybe people might want to play this garbage on their Switch! It’s not like they probably owned the Wii version or the 3DS version or the DS version which sold way more than the Wii U version!”
