Devil May Cry Boss Hideaki Itsuno Says Tell Capcom To Put Series On Switch When Asked About Dante For Smash

There are a number of character that Super Smash Bros fans would like to appear in the game and one of those is Dante from the Devil May Cry series. VG247 met up with Devil May Cry boss Hideaki Itsuno who said that Capcom would need to put the game on the Nintendo Switch first and that it would be a good idea for them to do so.

“Well, you think about it… I’m pretty sure that they… all the characters in Smash at least have some game on a Nintendo platform, right?” Itsuno said after a bit of a chuckle. There’s Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7 too, he notes, but as Itsuno points out, Cloud at least represents a series with a rich history on Nintendo.

“Well, that’s the thing. Devil May Cry has never been on a Nintendo platform. So it seems like the first thing to do would be to get Capcom to put Devil May Cry on a Nintendo platform in some way, shape or form – whatever game that might be,” Itsuno concludes. “Tell her!” he adds with a laugh, gesturing to the Capcom UK representative who can pass feedback on fevered requests for some DMC Switch ports back up the chain.

  1. Yeah, Dante seems like a strange pick considering the series has never been on a Nintendo platform. As stated, FF at least has a long history with Nintendo, and Cloud was the obvious pick for a FF rep since he’s the most popular. At least FF7 is coming to Switch this year.

    1. Glab to see people who understands this. There were some people ssaying that Dante should be in Smash which I don’t really understand why a character that has never had a game on the Nintendo console appear in a game like Smash.

Someone told me about that strange Namco X Capcom crossover for the 3DS but personally that game didn’t get so much attention and I never liked that combat system

      1. To be fair some people are suggesting the strangest characters for smash and it’s kind of become a meme at this point.
Some people saying Goku, Master Chief, Waluigi or Banjo Kazooie are just jokes to me right now.

At the same time I don’t think that we’re getting DMC for Switch, would be nice, but all their fanboys would be crying and demanding Bayonetta for their console.

        1. Goku and Master Chief are the most absurd request. Goku is from manga/anime while the other guy is an esclusive Xbot ip.

Waluigi fans are living in the dreams because they don’t want to accept the true. Waluigi is AT.

Banjo and Kazooie is a character that I still give a minimum % of chances to be in Smash. A youtuber called Papagenos said that his spies confirm that Banjo is in. We just have to wait and see if this is true

      2. Yeah, I agree. It’s too unusual. People nowadays. Anyway, Capcom’s Hideaki Itsuno hinted that there will be Devil May Cry 5. After that, they’re finally going to make a sequel of my all-time favorite RPG Dragon’s Dogma. Now, that’s a great news!

      3. You say that but we got Joker in smash.

it really feels like a free for all at this point as long as a character has at-least appeared once(also I think Dante also appeared in viewtiful joe which to my knowledge was on gamecube, so between that and namcoxcapcom he’s had more appearances on ninty consoles then Joker and Cloud!.

Also to respond to your comment below, Banjo seems fairly likely if Microsoft is willing to play ball and well, Ninty and Microsoft have basically been playing catch for the last 2 years or so.
There’s no way in hell Banjo for smash hasn’t come up in serious discussions before and might’ve even been requested by Nintendo and declined before, given his popularity and importance to Nintendo’s history with the n64.

        1. More than Joker, to be more exact.

Cloud’s appeared in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories & Final Fantasy Theatrythym when he was added in back on Smash 4, and thanks to FF7 coming to Switch, he’ll have been in 3 games on Nintendo systems when it releases this year. If Dante was in Viewtiful Joe, then Dante & Cloud will both be tied for both have appeared in 3 games on Nintendo systems by that point as Dante was in both Project X Zone games on 3DS.

    1. Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge on the NES (I don’t consider those pure Metal Gear Solid games but let’s just put in),
Metal Gear the Twin Snakes on the GameCube.
Metal Gear 3 Snake Eater on the 3DS.
I do believe there was also a Metal Gear game for the Game Boy color which I don’t remember now

In the end, yes Metal Gear has appeared on, at least, 1 or 2 Nintendo consoles.

    1. Cloud was part of the Olympus Coliseum world in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, originally a Gameboy Advance game, & in Final Fantasy Theatrythym. And the original FF7 is coming to (or already on) the Switch. So he actually has been a major character in a game on a Nintendo system.

  3. The headline is a little confusing.

Perhaps a better one: “Dante in Smash? DMC boss lobbies Capcom to bring the series to Switch first”

  4. I would be okay with Dante. His IP seems like a reasonable choice for the third Capcom IP to be represented in Smash. We got Snake from Metal gear, and I want Jin from Tekken, we might as well get Dante from Devil may cry since those three IPs where represented in Playstation all stars battle royale. But I would be okay with any IP to be the third Capcom franchise to be represented in Smash, or Shantae.

Also, Dante was in Project X Zone.

  5. Don’t exactly need to bring a Devil May Cry game to the Switch to add Dante to Smash. Before FF7 was announced for Switch, Cloud only appeared on Nintendo systems through two other games (Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the GBA (I’d argue he’s a major character in that game since he plays a pivotal role in the Olympus Coliseum “world”) & Final Fantasy Theatrythym for 3DS.) So because of that precedent Sakurai set with Smash 4, Dante could get in because of Project X Zone 1 & 2.

Speaking of Project X Zone, since Fiora was never gonna happen as a playable character in Smash, I actually want to put in my theory that we could get KOS-MOS as a DLC character for Smash Ultimate.

  6. The same companies asking people to beg for ports, sequels ect are the same companies that constantly ignored fans in the past, like Capcom (Rival Schools, MML3, Darkstalkers, Breath of Fire, Dragon’s Dogma), Sega (Shinobi, Phantasy Star Online) and Bandai Namco. Don’t even waste your time or breath asking companies to do anything, especially if you’re from the west, they constantly ignore the fans when they even attempt to communicate with these ignorant companies.
I, and many other fans, have asked for sequels, ports, and collections of the games listed above and these companies play dumb and act as if no one was asking for them. Don’t even get me started on how many people asked and even begged SE for ports, collections, and sequels to Parasite Eve, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Secret of Evermore ect.
