Rumor: A Hollywood-Based Marketing Firm May Have Leaked Sonic’s Movie Design

At long last, it seems that we now know what Sonic will look like in the movie that is supposed to premiere this November. Hamagami / Carroll, Inc, a marketing firm based in Hollywood, released a handful of images showing off Sonic’s movie design that is intended to be used for a “film style guide”. Everything related to Sonic’s design has since been removed from the site, but the short time period that they were available is all that was needed for them to appear all over the internet. The firm released a statement as well, saying that “it was necessary to strike a balance between staying true to the Sonic brand, while appealing to a global audience, and differentiating from previous Sonic merchandise packaging”.

They also discussed the “strategic requirements” that come with the “challenge of creating a global licensing and packaging program targeted to multiple demographics”. They elaborated on that, explained that they wanted to “signal a new modern take on the brand without abandoning its core essence, appeal to a worldwide audience and clearly differentiate from previous merchandising efforts”. Lastly, they wanted to “create a system that was versatile and modular, so that various Sonic IPs including Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic, Film Sonic, Animation Sonic, and other events could be integrated seamlessly within the baseline packaging look”. This doesn’t come straight from SEGA, so it isn’t official. However, the credibility of this rumor is quite high. We’ll likely get an official word from SEGA at their Sonic SXSW panel on March 12th, and that may include a new trailer. In the meantime, the images are down below.

    1. It doesn’t look that bad. Sonic looks relatively friendly in the images shown which can help appeal to new and old fans. This is really exciting to see the blue blur in full fur! And March 12th cant come fast enough because this brings up so many questions. I wonder how they decided on this hyper realistic direction for his art style? Also I wonder what Shadow will look like?

      1. I dunno- I’m going to have to disagree. That weird hair texture, those thick, meaty legs, the whites of his two shrunken eyes not being connected… this is all sorts of wrong, in my humble opinion.

    1. i have to disagree, the supposed Sonic look looks much better than that Will Smith Genie and also we dont know how it will look in the final product, for all we know it may look a lot better but i could be wrong and this is what it will look like. either way Sonic looks decent, not as terrifying as everyone makes him out to be but still a bit weird looking.

  1. People keep saying “It’s not as bad as I thought”…..no…. IT’S FREAKING WORSE!
He’s wearing Nike Shoes, his gloves are his hands now and my god the full body render looks twice as bad as the promo material.

  2. Surprisingly, I really like it. I didn’t expect to at all. I think they did a good job separating his eyes and they look natural. Would have been strange to attempt live action with the traditional Sonic design.

        1. the eyes should look the same as how they should be in the videogames and so his legs. sonic’s creator isn’t happy about his design. this all because of the idiots at paramount pictures. they really messed this movie up, sega should’ve done it instead.

    1. To make him more realistic and less as an old cartoon gloved character like Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, or Mario.

  3. I’m not a Sonic fan. My first reaction was kind of like everyone else’s, but looking at it again, it doesn’t look bad, it just doesn’t look much like Sonic.

  4. oh god, that’s a really bad design for sonic. I still blame paramount pictures for making this movie, sega should have made it in the first place. I bet this movie will get negative reviews after people see it. FUCK YOU PARAMOUNT PICTURES.
