It wasn’t smooth-sailing for those who wanted to try out Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night at PAX East. The demo suffered from massive frame drops. Well, 505 Games has explained what happened. They said that the demo Switch units had been stored inside closed containers, and this caused them to overheat. The good news is that the same build is much more stable when they aren’t stored this way, and the Switch version has also been optimized since.
505 Games also talked about how the game will play in docked and undocked mode. When the Switch is undocked, Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night will play at a fixed 720p resolution and 30 fps. If your Switch is docked, the game will be in a dynamic 720p resolution and 30 fps “with additional effects/visuals, et cetera”. Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night will release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC this summer.
That’s a relief. I thought this was going to say that this game causes all Switches to overheat. I’m awaiting this in the mail right now. Will probably get it Monday or Tuesday. I can’t help but wonder what Limited Run game I’ll order next.
You’re talking of Curse of the Moon, right?
Oops! Yes, it WAS Curse Of The Moon I was talking about. I was thinking this was the same game because of the Bloodstained title. If only this site would add an edit (and delete) button.
720p 30fps?
It looks like a game that the Switch should handle at 1080p60
Mario Odyssey has better dynamic resolution when docked how is a 2.5D game not hitting 1080p with fixed camera angles??
Mario Odyssey also had a lot more people and budget working for it.
Oh grrr….might give it a miss on Switch
Just because it overheated from being inside a closed container for a long period of time?
Still sounds like the game is terribly optimized. There’s no reason the docked version of this game sould still run at 720p. Unless it has to do with the engine their using not supporting the transition from Handheld and docked.
I keep my switch zipped up in a case and in a dark drawer.
That shouldn’t be reason for overheating, unless they were switched on.
God I hope this game doesn’t disappoint, it looks so promising and has taken ages.
Of course they meant while the game was running.
2D platformer overheating?? Wtf
I need this game. Actual after Dead cells is no good rpg castlevania. I must still play in circle ds trilogy :(
can you read? it says its cause it was in a contained box.
