It is an understatement to say that the reaction to the new Sonic movie trailer hasn’t been very positive. People have voiced a wide range of complaints and criticisms about what they’ve seen in the trailer, but the one thing that has been almost unanimously agreed on is that Sonic’s design isn’t that good. In fact, Sonic’s design has received so much criticism that Jeff Fowler, the movie’s director, has responded on Twitter. Fowler said that “the message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen”. Fowler’s tweet is down below.

This is like the equivalent to reshoots in certain movies… only this time it is completely necessary… I really like that they [surprisingly] decided to go this route. It has a chance to actually improve because it’s all just CGI; It should be easier to make a positive turn, unlike other movies like “Fant4stic” and “Justice League” where we seen reshoots completely trash the film.

I wanna see him looking his normal cartoony self, like those old cartoon characters in real life movies. I really miss that trend.
Also, they can name Eggman Eggman while they’re at it.
But cartoony wouldn’t fit the live action, unless you mean just his original design with a monoeye, normal legs, then I can get behind that. Maybe he could seem like sonic from the fan movie, but without that big mouth?
It would be live action apart from the cartoon character stuck in the real world.

Honestly, we didn’t get enough live action movies with 2D-ish characters living alongside live action flesh & blood humans, and I wish they would do more movies like that again. CGI is nice but it’d also be nice to see that style return. At the end of the day, both styles are still animation: one is simply flat while the other is 3D. It’d also be nice to see a return of claymotion & stopmotion styles to the big screen, too.
Hm. I wonder if Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is on Netflix or Amazon Prime…
Yeah but back then, Sonic has 4 fingers in the cartoon shows he was in. But, if they are planning to do that with his cartoon design, at least they need to do it right.

Wow that’s crazy. Their actually going to do something about it. Now this is a big turn of events, I was expecting them to completely ignore the complaints as usual. Jeff Fowler is alright in my book even if they do make changes and still can’t get it right lol
I’ll definitely give the guy some props if they try to improve Sonic’s design & still fail as it means they were trying to appease the fans instead of ignoring them like some movie & TV show companies are doing these days. *cough*Disney&CBS*cough*

Plot twist; the trailer was fake and they were going with the original design from the beginning and they made a terrible trailer so more people would talk about it as a form of viral marketing
I was thinking about that too, that could also have been the reason why we got so many leaked pictures.

Yeah it is a terrible trailer but as of Sonic’s movie design its never too late if they are going to change it.
Like I said, they got til November to tweak or change the CGI as I’m pretty sure that stuff is done post-production, anyway, after they’ve already given a release date. Godzilla: King of the Monsters got some little tweaks here & there with each new trailer, TV spot, etc they released. (Just around 30 days til I can see G:KotM.)
I want to play as cream the rabbit, sticks the badger, chaos zero(from sonic adventure), jet the hawk, wave the swallow, and storm the albatross on team sonic racing. This movie was a mistake
At least Jeff Fowler listens. Meanwhile, Sega is like “What’s that? You want Sonic’s friends to be playable, Sonic’s friends to have super forms, Sally Acorn, fusions, Chao garden, and no more crossovers with Mario? No you don’t! You want Classic Sonic!”
Then again, maybe Jeff will make Sonic’s design even worse.
At least he’ll be true to his name.
