Nintendo E3 2019 Plans: Nintendo Direct 9am PT 11th June, Focus On 2019 Games

Nintendo has outlined its plans for the E3 2019 video game trade show, which takes place June 11-13 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The weekend before the show includes two competitions featuring top players of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2 games from around the world. Returning activities during the week include a Nintendo Direct presentation on the morning of June 11 and Nintendo Treehouse: Live—a daily livestream from E3 featuring live gameplay and in-depth analysis of games featured at E3. Nintendo will feature many playable Nintendo Switch games at its booth, and a new Warp Pipe Pass will help transport people to a priority access part of lines for select games.

“We’re starting with some heated competitions and delivering new content the whole week,” said Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser. “Whether people are attending the show in person or watching from home, our goal is to provide them with the best possible Nintendo experience.”

Some of Nintendo’s activities at E3 2019 include:

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2 Tournaments: The team-based Super Smash Bros. Ultimate World Championship 2019 3v3 and the Splatoon 2 World Championship 2019 tournaments will take place on Saturday, June 8, at The Theatre at Ace Hotel at 929 S. Broadway St. in Los Angeles. Both events will feature players from North America, Europe, Japan and Australia/New Zealand. The line for entry starts forming at 8 a.m. in front of The Theatre at Ace Hotel. Fans who want to catch the competitions in person can gain free entry after receiving an event badge in line on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 10 a.m. and competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. People who prefer to watch the competitions online can visit https://e3.nintendo.com/ and Nintendo’s channels on Twitch and YouTube. Nintendo will communicate additional details about these tournaments at a later time.
    • After battling their way through more than 11,000 players in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate North America Open 2019, the winning team of Wrath, Devonte and Poltergust will represent North America against teams from Europe, Australia/New Zealand and Japan.
    • The team of FTWIN showcased its elite splat skills in the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019 by toppling some of the most experienced Splatoon 2 squads across all of North America. The team will be looking to continue its winning streak against some of the top teams from Europe, Australia/New Zealand and Japan.
  • Nintendo Direct E3 2019: The presentation will begin at 9 a.m. PT on June 11. Viewers can watch it by visiting https://e3.nintendo.com/. The presentation, which focuses entirely on software, will offer a look at games scheduled to launch in 2019.
  • Nintendo Treehouse: Live: The livestream hosted by Nintendo of America’s Treehouse staff right from Nintendo’s E3 booth returns to give viewers a deeper look into select games, along with commentary by those who know the games best. People can view the livestream at https://e3.nintendo.com/. Additional details about Nintendo Treehouse: Live will be announced at a later date.
  • Warp Pipe Pass: As always, Nintendo will have a variety of games to play in its booth. People who are attending the E3 2019 show can reduce the amount of time they wait in line for select Nintendo games by reserving a free Warp Pipe Pass, which will allow them to gain priority access in line during their designated time to line up and play. A Nintendo Account is required to sign up and reserve a Warp Pipe Pass. Nintendo will communicate additional details about how and when to reserve a pass at a later date.

  1. That’s cool !
Hopefully we will hear about Metroid (unlikeyly)
    Bayonetta 3
    a new Smash DLC character
sth. from Atlus because of SMT V (also, for those still interested I discussed witha friend of mine that if Persona 5 would really come to the switch, Nintendo would probably be the one to announce it, so that could be the last chance)
    Animal Crossing
Gameplay for Three Houses, Astral Chain
and lastly some Pokémon S/S (game freak also said they have a little surprise for us in terms of pokémon stuff – hopefully a new mystery dungeon or gen 4/ gen 5 remake)

      1. I share your enthusiasm but I really don’t think we news from Prime 4 since they restarted productions – However I do think that we’ll get Prime Trilogy…

    1. You list seems agreeable, for the most part.

However, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Link’s (Re-)Awakening and Super Mario Maker 2 will surely also be showcased.
The latter of the three will release two mere weeks after E3, and it would be a grand opportunity to show of a last surprise inclusion in the game; or simply do a final marketing push.

It would surprise me if Pokémon Sword & Shield does not get some kind of announcement…
      Starter evolutions, perhaps?

Metroid Prime Trilogy is another possible candidate, but it might be held on to until the time is right…

I do not want to raise anyone’s expectations unreasonably high with what I’m about to relay, so do note that I am not calling it a certainty; just a logical possibility:
It is very possible that Nintendo will show us two new DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
We know the amount of characters, and we know that the Fighter Pass 1 will be finalized by February 2020. To reach that number, they would need to release characters at an average of one every other month. They are normally announced at least one month ahead of time (Joker was an anomaly, in this scenario,) and since we are almost half-way into May already and the next character is supposedly released by the end of June, it is possible that we will get June’s character (which would come out only two or three weeks after E3, at the latest) as well as getting August’s character.
President exists for this kind of announcement as well; both Roy and Ryu were announced at the 2015 E3…

All we have to do it wait and see, and Nintendo’s masterplan will be revealed, in due time…

      1. Yep, I’m in agreement with that two Smash character DLC announcement. If they wanna reach the deadline, it makes sense. Though even if we don’t get two announced, I’m 100% sure we’ll get at least ONE shown, and I think that’s hype enough for me.

      2. Of course, I specifically claimed that I do not have 100% certainty.

The Dragon Quest character is still a rumor. Other likely candidates are Edelgard (from Fire Emblem Three Houses) and either starter Pokémon’s final evolution, from Pokémon Sword & Shield.

I am aware that most people don’t want more Fire Emblem characters nor more Pokémon…
But they are popular series with very noisy fan bases.

      3. I completly agree with what you said.
I’ll be honest though I forgot all about LM 3 Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Maker 3…
Also just wishful thinking from me – I really hope they reveal something new from SMT V, it’s been a long time.
I think that what they’ll do at e3 for the DLC characters is :
They show 2nd DLC character that will be available later that day / will be out in July/August – Additionally they announce said 3rd character without release window BUT tell us what it is.

  2. I wanna c some links awakening gameplay and a release date.

They’ll probably be a stack of Mario maker info and a lot of Pokemon I expect.
    Bayo 3 is needed.
I expect a new Mario platformer might be mentioned as it’s about the right timescale.

    1. Oh shit I forgot link’s awakening is releasing this year – Yeah that would be dope
I don’t think we get a new Mario game though we got two Mario games this year already

  3. They always say it’s about games releasing in a certain time period but then they always show totally unannounced stuff for further in the future. Should be good. A little disappointed it’s the same Splatoon and Smash Bros tournaments again, would’ve been nice to see a different game being played.

  4. I hope we find out who the next DLC fighter in Smash ultimate is (even if they’re bad). And if we don’t, maybe we’ll find out earlier like in in 2015.

    1. Joker has got to be the coolest and most annoying character to be added lol I hate him in smash Bros cus of all the spammers now. I hope the next character is one of those that takes a little bit more skill to use.

      1. Joker does take skill if you wanna beat someone outside of elite smash. The only people that say he doesn’t take skill are the ones losing to the side b spamming elite smashers and are salty that they lost

      2. Not really. He’s pretty basic, he plays like shiek and is only useful with arsene active. Kind of boring to play with once you get over the novelty of having a persona character in smash bros.

  5. Is it that time of the year again already !! Well I’m excited for anything new they show, don’t really care much for the stuff we already know about since I already know it’s all good stuff.

  6. As cool as this is… I REALLY wish Nintendo would stop doing that “We’ll be focusing on [Insert modern year here] to [Insert next year here] releases” mindset.

I get that they want their fans to not wait very long, but I like it better if they included those titles PLUS titles that are a work in progress.

That way people don’t have to feel like they surfed through EVERY TITLE of said year only to wait months (or a whole year) for more video game announcements.

Also; If Nintendo wants to do something SPECIAL for E3, then make the conference last about an hour or two so they don’t just look like “another Nintendo Direct”. And even if they only make it 30-45 minutes long then at least announce as many games as possible within that timeslot and not focus on so much detail on just one game (E3 2018, Super Smash Bros. hint hint).

Point being; either make the E3 directs longer or announce as many titles as possible and DON’T worry that much about release dates! That only implies we aren’t used to video game delays (I mean I survived the wait of The Last Guardian, a couple extra years won’t kill ya).

    1. We all want lots of new announcements but to expect that is completely unrealistic. This is the complete opposite of what I would want. I’m grateful we don’t have to wait years, metroid prime 4 notwithstanding, from announcement to release for games on Switch.

    2. I agree with the statement about making the announce of work in progress games instead of just saying that they are working on it. But this can be another MP4 reaction so it’s better show a game in beta phase.

I think this year the direct should be 1 hour since we didn’t got any direct since february (I don’t count the indie directs)

  7. Can’t wait to see more of Luigi’s Mansion 3, Link’s Awakening, Animal Crossing and maybe they dare to say something about the forgotten Pikmin 4 game.

  8. Animal crossing lets go they always show off animal crossing at e3 but I`m also hype for mario maker and link awakening and belive or it or not mario and sonic 2020 nintendo this is going to be nintendo juicest lineup if you think about it better than 2018 which heavily focus on smash
With games like fire eblem, pokemon, luigi mansion, and etc the switch hardware and sales will be a big boost

  9. 2019 games…

    So no Metroid Prime 4
    No Bayonetta
Probably now Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion

But Pokémon, Astral Chain, Mario Maker 2 and a few others…

Let’s see how it goes. I hope it’s great this year and I hope we see some unannounced games.

  11. “The presentation, which focuses entirely on software” What happened to the Switch Pro/Mini?? A revision is long overdue, even if it’s just a redesign of the current Switch which fixes many of the design flaws and improves battery life. No new version at all is inacceptable!

    Like

    1. Nothing happen it was just rumors that people try to pass off as facts, if a switch pro/mini is in the works it would be announce random or nintendo will announce them when there ready I don’t remember the switch or the new 2ds xl being reveal at e3 a switch revision usually happens later in the life cycle anyway and as far as I`m concern nintendo never promise or stated that we were getting a revision, and “long overdue” the switch has been put for 2 years jeez

  12. Don’t expect anything about MP4 and SMTV. They said clearly: focus on 2019 games. Neither will come this year. I’m also betting no Bayonetta 3 news, either.

i can already theorize how the Direct will go on:

    – Release date for Link’s Awakening (if it isn’t delayed) and Daemon X Machina (with more gameplay).
    – More Fire Emblem: Three Houses gameplay, even if the game will release in the next month.
    – More Astral Chain gameplay.
    – More Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled, and Super Mario Maker 2 gameplay, even if they are gonna to be released on June.
    – The second Smash DLC character.
    – Either Luigi’s Mansion 3, Animal Crossing or even both being delayed to 2020.
    – More Pokémon Sword & Shield gameplay.
    – Some surprise port (don’t believe in P5 or Nier anymore).

Basically, no big surprises or announcements.

    Pikmin 4
    Mario 3D World port
