Nintendo’s Doug Bowser: “We Need To Make Sure That Our Employees Have Good Work-Life Balance”

This is Doug Bowser’s very first E3 as Nintendo of America’s president. He had quite an introduction in Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct, and he has been doing interviews on the show floor. One interview in particular, with IGN, talked about the work-life balance of Nintendo’s employees. Employee crunch and game delays were the discussion of this interview. Here’s what Doug Bowser had to say about the matter in full:

“The crunch point is an interesting one. For us, one of our key tenants is that we bring smiles to people’s faces, and we talk about that all the time. It’s our vision. Or our mission, I should say. For us, that applies to our own employees. We need to make sure that our employees have good work-life balance. One of those examples is, we will not bring a game to market before it’s ready. We just talked about one example [in Animal Crossing’s delay]. It’s really important that we have that balance in our world. It’s actually something we’re proud of. To your point, the community obviously is passionate, is vocal, but we also need to make sure that, as an industry, we’re having those conversations.”

  1. You can start by stopping Masahiro Sakurai from working himself to death even when he’s got a injured freaking hand. Another way to fix crunch time would be to stop with these yearly releases of games like WWE 2k, Madden, FIFA, etc.

      1. So how is bowser supposed to do any of that, he is president of Nintendo of America, not the whole damn gaming industry, those yearly release games are made by 3rd party developer’s, and sakura is someone who not only over works himself on his own, making it his own fault, but he is not employed by Nintendo, he is an independent developer who partners with Nintendo, so bowser cant say anything to him outside of making suggestions. Please educate yourself before you go making complaints of demands

        1. When he’s making games for Nintendo, they are effectively his boss so they actually could make him slow down a bit. So if you’re talking to me & replied to Addy by mistake, I don’t need to educate myself as I already know what I need to know to state my criticisms. I give you an E for Effort, though, in trying to defend Ninty.

        2. Also, Bowser might not be in charge of NoJ but if NoA is gonna make efforts to improve their employees’ work-life balance, it stands to reason that NoJ is most likely going to make the same effort. After all, Bowser is under the president of Nintendo so he could have easily been given this mission statement from that guy.
