If it’s something you’re given for free, it’s best not to complain.
Preorder bonuses are meant to get someone to buy the game from your store. If Amazon has something better than a poster or they are giving you a poster AND something else, people are more likely to buy from Amazon than GameStop. If Amazon or Wal-Mart is giving a better free item, people have every right to complain about GameStop’s weak little preorder bonus.
But it’s just that: a BONUS. When you buy the game, you’re only entitled to the game itself. It would be nice if GameStop were offering a better bonus, but I’m not going to complain if I get a free item.
I won’t complain either, but if someone has a better deal, that’s money GameStop won’t get. And when people find a store or website with a better deal than GameStop, that’s even more money they won’t get. Sure giving free items that aren’t on the same level as free items from other stores isn’t the biggest reason the company is going down the gutter, it is still a small problem stacking on top of bigger problems. Like money, small problems stack up.
Okay, but isn’t GameStop the only retailer offering a pre-order bonus? So having the only pre-order bonus makes it the best pre-order bonus, right? Wouldn’t this count as a penny in their chest as opposed to a penny less?
I don’t know. Depends on how much people want a poster that they could probably easily get without buying the game by simply Googling the poster & having it printed out using a printer/copier that puts out poster sized prints/copies. As for the game, just get it on Amazon with free 2 day shipping so you don’t have to drive to the nearest GameStop. Or get it digitally if they don’t care about getting their games physically.
The point isn’t how much they want a poster. If they don’t want to order online and prefer it physically, the best case in this scenario would be GameStop. Walmart, Target, Best Buy, etc. Are not offering any bonus incentive to buy this game at their stores and there’s no Special or Limited Edition coming out. So if it comes down to it, GameStop has the best incentive by default in this scenario, since it’s the only retailer giving away a bonus. GameStop gets a lot of criticism, and rightfully so in a lot of cases, but giving away a free, albeit minor, bonus shouldn’t be one of them.
As an example, I got a little Zelda inspired chest for my change. Sure most of the change in there is pennies but they do stack up & make it heavier when combined with the bigger change like quarters & dimes and also add up to bigger money when I go to a bank or Coinstar to trade the change in for dollar bills.
