Cuphead Developers: Working On Zelda Would Be A Dream

The next issue of Nintendo Force, the June issue, has an interview with Studio MDHR’s Maja, Chad, and Jared Moldenhauer. Studio MDHR made Cuphead, and they’re currently working on DLC called The Delicious Last Course. In the Nintendo Force issue, the team revealed that they’d love to make a new Zelda game. In fact, Jared Molenhauer says that he’d love to do “a sprawling Zelda title brought to life in a doting 2D hand-animated style. Think of all the expressiveness and life you could bring to the tribes, people, and enemies of a universe that rich! And much like Cuphead, we would get to test our design mettle coming up with screen-filling bosses of an entirely different nature. Of course, backgrounds would be completely hand-painted with nothing re-used! The list just goes on and on. It would be an absolute dream come true.”

  1. Breaking News: Indie developers can’t stop drooling at the idea of using nintendo assets after Cadence of Hyrule’s release

  2. Give them The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Adventure. I’d be okay with them remaking that. And considering the difficulty of that game, they’d be perfect. Of course, don’t make it difficult on the level of Cuphead, though, and keep it at LoZ: LA’s difficulty.

  3. I personally think this style of graphics (not the ’30s cartoons vibe, but the hand-drawn fluid animation) would fit the Link’s Awakening remake a lot better than the toy aesthetic they went with.

  4. I would kill just to have a 2d beat em up side scroller Zelda game similar to Guardian Heroes and Code of Princess, that is one my dream Nintendo games I wish to see come to fruition, the other is an open world StarFox game like Starlink but developed exclusively by Nintendo because Ubisoft are greedy bastards who can’t get a good idea right like making a complete aircraft shooter that doesn’t have garbage expansions that should have been in the base game or cost more than the actual game purchase.
