The announcement of the Nintendo Switch Lite was not much of a surprise to many fans, thanks to months of rumors. Another thing that may not be surprising to fans is that the Switch Lite is not going to replace the 3DS. Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser confirmed the news to the Verge earlier today, saying that “we’ll continue to support our 3DS family of systems as long as there is demand”.
All I need is for Nintendo to enable DS emulation for the 3DS eshop, that’s ALL they need to do. Let me download the DS library and the 3DS will live on forever.
If you want to do that just homebrew your 3DS…

I think they just mean they’ll keep the 3DS on store shelves and let 3rd party devs make games for it. Provided they still sell.
Vita lived impressively long just on 3rd party support. So 3DS might be around for a while.
Probably. Most of us here likely won’t be affected by it either way.
Unless they turn the 3DS into a legacy system and allow people to buy DS & Game Boy games on the system through the eShop as digital games, game support for this system is definitely dead. I don’t really consider keeping the online going, keeping the 3DS eShop going, and releasing “stability” updates to the system as ongoing support. Least not where it would matter most.
Yeah they have been supporting the system for quite sometime now. At least it got some appreciation from some fans.

Here is my question: will there still be more remakes from the Nintendo GameCube or Nintendo 64 games like F-Zero or Super Mario Sunshine remakes, because Nintendo has been updating the system lately to increase the system stability. Swap Doodle is still being used by other users. When can we get that on the Nintendo Switch.
I demand localizations of Toriko: Gourmet Survival! and Saiki Kusuo no Sainan Shijou Saidai no Saina!

I love that you guys just like. Report on stuff. Don’t get me wrong, 3DS is on it’s deathbed sure, as much as I hate to say it. But I swear to god, other news sites seem downright malicious towards their treatment to the 3DS. I wish they’d give it a chance to die with dignity, since Nintendo certainly isn’t.
the third party support is also dropping since Nintendo Reveal the Nintendo NX known as Nintendo Switch.

Well I thought they stopped even making games for it in 2017, when the demand stopped. I think it’s unnecessary to cling onto an old console when we’ve clearly moved into a new era.

It’s honestly more of a joke hence the “like”. And my reaction doesn’t really harm anything either, since Nintendo will still be saying stuff like this for years to come probably…
I said this before… Real “Development” Support for the 3DS is falling greatly, there’s only a couple of releases trickled throughout the years now. Not only that, but it seems 3rd party support is dropping too. The 3DS already has an epic library, so I would not mind Nintendo “selling” the 3DS for however long, but I (and surly many others) would rather have the “development support” part of the spectrum dedicated to the Switch. :)
I have a feeling they want to replace it eventually so they’re keeping the handheld alive as long as they can so there’s no gap in release of the next one. Their handhelds overall have been more successful than their home consoles, none of them (GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS) have under performed like a few of their home consoles have. Some variations haven’t done the best, but each new generation has done well, I can’t imagine they’d wanna end the handhelds altogether.
3DS underperformed massively for about a year into its launch before they turned it around.
An impressive feat too as it was bombing hard, reminds me of FFXIV compared to FFXIV:ARR performance.
