Nintendo is really scrapping the bottom of the NES barrel now. Nintendo Switch Online is just a month away from turning a year old, and the company has confirmed a couple of more obscure NES titles that will be available for Nintendo Switch Online players. Starting August 21st, you will be able to play Kung-Fu Heroes and Vice: Project Doom. Nintendo’s tweet, including the trailer, is down below.

That would be a good response to literally every NES update but this one, given this is the first kinda obscure set. (Meaning nobody bought it before)
Nintendo should have at least had a VC in place for Switch, even if it would have been small at first and then built upon as time went on. I’m just speaking in general. I’m interested in getting a Switch, but that interest dies down the more I really learn about it.

Honestly that’s pretty unlikely at this stage of the market. Almost nobody bought a Wii U, and the original Wii hasn’t been super popular in around 10 years. This means in order for your statement to be true, there would need to be more classic Nintendo gamers owning Wiis than young kids and casuals who never bought anything on the Wii VC combined.
It’s not unlikely for the time period when it was happening due to there being multiple consoles with eShops reach. I know i’m not the only person who’s paid for Super Mario Bros 3 more than once just to enjoy it on another console. 3ds also has access to some of those titles. To simply say that it hasn’t happened is absurd.

First of all, the NES games are a free bonus to subscribing to Nintendo’s online service. They aren’t selling them again.
And the only NES games on the eShop are the cabinet versions of the games.
And you’d better check out that eShop, it’s very, VERY, full of great games.
So the Switch eShop has other VC titles other than said subscription bonus NES games?
yeah I didn’t know that.
It’s swarming with titles of the kind you’d call VC (a plethora of neo geo games, sega ages, a megadrive collection, namco collections, atari collections, megamans, psikyo cabinets, some dreamcast ports etc etc) but none of that is first party.
So we’re still waiting for SNES, GB(C)/A, N64 and Cube – hoping that ever happens.
Why are they doing this… the only “good” NES games are just the classics everyone remembers. I know a lot of people that have online and none of them care about NES games.
Yet everyone I know wants HD Remasters of N64 and Gamecube games, and they’re willing to pay for those evident by Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and even Super Mario 64 remakes (remember the DS?). Just start porting these to the switch in HD instead of this crap nobody cares about…
If it’s not one of your classic games, just let 5 people that actually remember the game download the ROMs online.
Examples of games I’d pay to replay on Switch:
– Mario 64 DS (port the enhanced version instead of the original)
– Ocarina of Time & Majora’s Mask: Switch >>> 3DS
– Luigi’s Mansion 3DS Remake: It looks worse on 3DS than it did on the Gamecube…
– Animal Crossing E+: Most people don’t even know this exists since it was Japan only, but it was essentially the final version of the first Animal Crossing. You could replace the E-Reader functionality with Amiibo cards. Could even allow linking save to ACNH to unlock some exclusive recipes for some of the forgotten items…
– Smash Melee: People still have a hard-on for this
– FE: Aren’t the Gamecube FE(s) all >$100?
– Mario Sunshine: _classic_
– Mario Party 4-7: Add online for boards and side-modes. Would literally be better than the newest one lol
– Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD: Switch >>> Wii U, and you already ported everything else
– Paper Mario: there’s already a petition for it
– Kirby Airride: online coop :D
There are tons of gems on the NES that nobody remembers. Fire and Ice, Bucky O’Hare, Felix the Cat. Shoot, there are 4 Dragon Quest games on that console which Square has no reason not to license since they’re damn sure not doing anything with the ROMs.
Finally, some good suggestions.
HD remasters of most of the games you mentioned is definitely something I want. Especially the GCN games. There are some other GCN games you haven’t mentioned that I want HD remasters of, too, like Eternal Darkness & Baten Kaitos.
Getting yourself the EON Gamecube HDMI adapter would be cheaper than buying 3 new HD Remasters, and its available right now.
Though not everyone is a weirdo like me who loves original hardware.
All I wanted was Earthbound… missed opportunity considering the anniversary.
While I think the people complaining about NES titles in general are exposing their young age and strong bias more than anything, these picks are completely bewildering by any standard. You guys do know you could slap a translation patch on Mother 1 or Fire Emblem and rake in the cash right?
While I don’t think these are the BEST games to reveal for NSO (seriously, we should at least have SNES games by now), but I will admit V.I.C.E.:Project Doom looks kinda cool for a game I never heard of.
It looks like Ninja Gaiden meets Contra.

But seriously, give us some 3rd party games. Especially the RPGd.
