Nintendo says Switch Online NES and SNES games will no longer be released monthly

snes_switch_online

Nintendo has announced via its official website that the scheduling of Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Nintendo games has changed. The Kyoto-based company says that the retro titles for Nintendo Switch Online members will no longer be released monthly and will instead be distributed at certain intervals. They didn’t specify exactly when we can expect them, so it will be a case of wait and see.

It’s nothing. We just have to wait for get both NES and SNES games. The real question is if we are going to get the N64 games next year.

  1. Fair enough, honestly. It seems easier to keep track of and get excited about bigger bundles. Like, now, when the “big game” schedule is dry for a couple of months on the Switch, they can drop 5 games on us at once and use that as a “pseudo-AAA” release / hype machine.

  2. Nintendo’s online service is a damn joke. No one in their right mind would pay for ps+, xblive, Gold, or Nin Online if online play was free. Charging to play any game online outside of your internet bill is idiotic and I solely blame Microsoft for this greedy practice.

      1. I just don’t understand why this, of all things, is what people raise arms about.
£17.99 for an entire year is chicken feed, that’s less than £2 a month, to make such a fuss about such a measly cost is honestly pathetic.
I also heavily disagree on saying the online is “garbage”. Yes it needs work with things like voice chat but considering you get to play against people on the other side of the globe and you basically get all these games to play (That by the way would cost a lot more if you purchased them individually), I think it could be far worse.

I guess in this day and age, some people are just prone to be naturally enraged.

    1. Whilst I somewhat agree, we are talking about paying £1.40 a month for that, a bunch on NES/SNES games and the other stuff like Tetris 99. I’ve always thought it was worth it for such a miniscule amount of money.

  3. If they release less frequently, but more, then I’m fine with this.
Never had snes, so I will be checking the games out today.

  4. I was hoping they’d release games on a case by case basis instead of releasing a group of games every single month. But oh well. If this intervals thing means we’ll get 15-20 every 3 or 4 months, I’m cool with that as it’s better than 2 every month where that’s just 6 or 8 every 3 or 4 months. We’ll see if this is good or bad when they release the next batch of SNES games.

    1. I couldnt reply to you above so I’ll reply here. You are a sheep. Theres a diiference between being able to afford online “servives” and defending bs business practices like the sheep you are.

      1. gamingfan2009,

I thought of several ways to respond to you. All seemed inadequate. I think I’ll leave it at this. Do you think anyone, anywhere, no matter how correct they are, looks like an intelligent and put together person for calling people “moronic peasants” in an internet conversation about video games? Ridley’s been on this board for a long time. Absolutely nobody is reading your post and coming away with the idea that “Clearly gamingfan2009 is an adult.”

If you want to convince anyone, I’d suggest changing your rhetoric. If you don’t want to convince anyone, and you don’t like the posters, why are you here?

        1. Umm, ive been visiting this site since before the wii u launched. He wouldnt even know who aleous was. The guy that constantly bashed the wii u and I defended. I called him a peasant because thats what he is. He thinks getting nickled and dimed is ok. Literally the biggest problem in gaming today.

          1. I was checking out this site before the Wii U released, too. I know who Aeleous, Pinwheel, sasori, AND nostalgia_w are. ESPECIALLY sasori & nostalgia_w! I understand why you don’t think I haven’t been here long since I’ve gone through multiple names over the years. It’s clear you haven’t paid much attention to me or else you’d easily be able to figure out what some of my past names were. As for being nickel & dimed, I don’t think you know what that phrase means if you think 20 or 60 bucks a year is nickel & diming people. Go check out some games from EA if you want to see what nickel & diming REALLY is. NOW if I, or anyone else for that matter, was paying for Nintendo Switch Online & PlayStation Plus solely for the online play, then you could say we are being nickel & dimed but I, for one, am not. There is more to these subscriptions than just that. For example: the NES or SNES Apps that let you play a plethora of those games. If you think that is nickel & diming people, I guess you don’t have streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, etc, either, because, according to your WRONG usage of the phrase, those things are nickel & diming people, too. You are like those retards on Twitter, Resetera, etc using the term racist, misogynist, Nazi, etc for people that aren’t even those things & just don’t appreciate forced politics, changing the race, gender, or sexual orientation of established characters, shitty writing, shitty acting, etc. You & them all need to go back to school so you can relearn what these terms actually mean because you all are ruining words & phrases that should actually MEAN something when you use them!

            1. No, I dont netflix or any of those other services and yes, companies charging you to play online is nickel and diming. I couldnt give two shits about the games they offer you in the “service”. If I want a game I buy it.

I also wouldnt be racist to anyone becsuse Im not a racist so dont start throwing that bs around either.

              1. If online play was the only thing people were getting out of paying 20 bucks for Nintendo Switch Online (or 60 bucks for PS+), you’d have a point but it’s not. Just because you don’t care about the extra bonuses that come with paying for those subscriptions doesn’t make your usage of the term nickel & diming any more accurate.

Did you even read the second half of my comment..? (Or are you dyslexic?) I wasn’t calling you a racist. I was comparing you to those idiots on Twitter misusing the term (and other terms like it) because you are misusing the nickel & dime phrase.

      2. “ive been visiting this site since before the wii u launched. He wouldnt even know who aleous was. ”

Not relevant. Your name isn’t instantly recognizable as his his. He has built in credibility, you don’t. By using childish insults right out of the gate, you’re coloring people’s first impressions of you whether you’ve been here before or not.

“The guy that constantly bashed the wii u and I defended. ”

So? I bash Mario Odyssey. What’s your point? You don’t have to like all Nintendo products, just as you clearly don’t like their online service.

” I called him a peasant because thats what he is. ”

An embarrassing defense of an irrational insult. He could love paid online. That wouldn’t effect whether or not he’s a “peasant”. You called him one because you don’t have the capacity to make your point.

“He thinks getting nickled and dimed is ok. Literally the biggest problem in gaming today.”

Complete list of times Ridley has stated that getting nickled and dimed is ok:

        That is all.

Don’t confuse “not throwing a hissy fit” with “endorses”.

“Even that nintendo commander dude that visits this site. He bashed paid online but now nintendo does it he’s ok with it. “its cheap so its ok”. Moronic and hypocritical.”

This is a dishonest portrayal of others’ opinions. Nobody has taken this position. They’re just appropriately adjusting the severity of their objection to the severity of the transgression. Why on earth would you complain as much about $1.60/month of overcharging as you would $5/month of overcharging? Shoot, at $1.60, if you get just one hour of enjoyment out of the free games provided, it has paid for itself in games, never mind the actual online service itself.

That said, do you have to like Nintendo’s online service? Of course not. You just need to stop acting like a 10 year old about people not being outraged by it. iphones are a foolish way to spend $800/year. What’s more foolish than spending $800 a year on iphones? Chasing around people that buy them to condescend to them about how wrong they are.

  5. Not how I would prefer, but it makes sense from Nintendo’s perspective. People were complaining relentlessly every month that a super main stream first party NES game wasn’t the one released.
