    1. Or maybe because he’s an indie character that’s too new. I’m sick of how impatient fans are. Just because an IP exists, doesn’t mean they should be in Smash bros right now. Sakurai did the right thing making Sans a mii costume instead of a fully playable character. Not only is he from an indie game that’s new, he’s not even the main character of his own game. You can argue that Pikachu and Wii fit trainer are not the main characters of their respective games, but they’re not third party. Sure Ken is not a main character, but he waited until after the main character of his IP got in. This isn’t Playstation all-stars battle royale.

      1. I also don’t like when people say there is no indie representation. There’s actually a lot of the characters in Smash Bros. who came from games that actually had less people on their development team then these “small indie studios”. They where also made at a time when you had to actually make your game engine from scratch and not use pre made ones. I think the newest IP smash bros ever made a playable character was Xenoblade, but that’s only half true as Monolith had actually been making Xeno games since the 90’s.

Just because Shovel Knight has been around for a while doesn’t mean he should be added to Smash Bros.
If we go by that logic, Shantae deserves the spot way more due to debuting on the Gameboy Colour.

Actually, I believe the newest IP in Smash Bros currently is Splatoon, unless we are counting mii costumes, spirits, and assist trophies.
