Nintendo has released a brand new update for the Nintendo Switch firmware, bringing it to version 9.0.0. This update, as promised earlier today, fixes an issue related to the Fire Emblem: Three Houses Expansion Pass. As for new additions, a search feature is now available for the News Channel, and you can now invite friends to “join online play in supported software”. The official patch notes can be seen down below.
- Added a search feature for the News Channel.
- Channels can be searched using filters or free text.
- Added “Display QR Code to Check In” to User Settings.
- You can display a QR Code on-screen to check in using your Nintendo Account.
- Alarm Notifications have been added to System Settings > Notifications.
- You can check or delete pre-set alarms.
- Alarms can be set up only within supported software (to be added at a later time).
- A controller firmware update may be required to use this feature.
- You can now configure touch screen sensitivity settings.
- Select between Standard and Stylus sensitivity (optimized for stylus input).
- Added the option to turn on/off the system button input (Nintendo Switch Lite only).
- When this setting is turned off the system no longer receives input from the console buttons, with the exception of the Capture and HOME Buttons, and can only be operated from a wirelessly paired controller (sold separately).
- This setting is on by default and can only be turned off if a compatible controller (sold separately) is wirelessly paired to the console.
- The setting will automatically turn back on when the console is restarted or after returning from sleep mode.
- Added “Online Play Invites” section to the User’s page.
- Invites from friends to join online play in supported software will be displayed in this section.
- General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
- Resolved an issue where some users can’t start the Fire Emblem: Three Houses game, and get an error instead.
This is a lot of cool minor stuff. FE being fixed isn’t minor though

everytime Nintendo get a new console they start over from the beginning. I’ll never understand it lol they’ll probly come around in the next year or two

One day, near the end of the Switch’s lifespan, I finally install custom firmware.
Then I can try out so many awesome SSB and Odyssey mods, as well as unlock content that is impossible to unlock.
Almost three years of switch still no folders…
Agree, and could do with a search bar on the home screen as I have sooo many games.
Do you not sort your games alphabetically when you show all software? Granted, searching would make things slightly easier but that’s not the Nintendo way, is it?
I usually agree with Nintendo and their attempt to simplify the hell out of the Switch UI but looking at my homescreen and seeing how my games are vanishing between a zillion demos and everything drowning in complete chaos, I’m just begging them to add folders at this point. The size of the library has reached a point where I’m asking myself why they can’t just add it as it really holds people back finding their way through their purchases.
There actually a lot about the UI that needs to be changed to really make folders make sense.
Don’t forget to update your controllers too (Too bad the drift issue cannot be fixed that way.)
