Special items from Mario Kart: Double Dash return in Mario Kart Tour

Although Mario Kart: Double Dash has yet to see a direct sequel, the Nintendo GameCube classic is still managing to have a significant impact on the long-running franchise. Certain special items from the game are making a comeback via Mario Kart Tour, including the Fireballs, Heart, Yoshi Egg and Giant Banana. Only certain drivers can use them, but they are capable of turning the tides of a race. You’ll be able to take them all out for a spin when Mario Kart Tour arrives on September 25.

  1. I didn’t like this mechanic in Double Dash, as it just made everyone want to use the characters with the best specials while everyone else basically got screwed. Even without the specials certain characters start getting used more do to high speeds if you play well, this just makes that situation worse.

    1. It’s a shame the game’s drifting mechanic is completely broken. You get drift straight the whole race, certain characters can hold more item boxes than others (You can get like 3 mushrooms while in 1st place), playing vertically is very annoying, and you need stamina to play. I’d much rather that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC they promised like a year ago rather than this low quality garbage lmao.

      1. First, they gave us that twitter post of khalimari desert with the caption “Good things come to those who wait”. Then after giving us the nintendo labo support for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Takahashi then said in the interview “There will be further updates for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, so please look forward to it.” 2 years later, and that twitter post seems to have meant nothing apparently. 1 year later, and so much for those “Further updates that we should be looking forward to”. I’m 100% certain than further updates we should be “looking forward to” aren’t simple bug fixes. Obviously “look forward to” implies updates that are adding content. Which is why I said they promised DLC; They promised further content being added to the game that we’d be looking forward to, but I guess they just gave up on MK8??

    2. Not to mention, I’m certain that Twitter post wasn’t talking about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Release, seeing how Khalimari Desert isn’t even in the game. That’s like Posting a pic of Coconut Mall from Mario Kart Wii, hinting at good things to come, and then releasing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which doesn’t even have Coconut Mall. That simply does not make any sense at all. Why tease an old track that’s implying DLC, and then release Deluxe which doesn’t even have that Track in it, and then promise Further updates that we should look forward to, and then not follow up on any of that a whole year later?? You can call that a stretch if you want, but I’m simply making sense of and interpreting the “Future content” Nintendo’s teased twice now but never gave.

  2. @wetwaluigi you know there was a test demo for it this whole time right? Regardless of how intense my comment on it was, it still needs some major improvement. Watch gameplay of it on YouTube and you’ll see what’s clearly wrong with it.

  3. Mk8 is so boring now, I have that game since day 1 back in wiiu days 2014 ? I don’t want new dlc for mk8 I would not buy it. Still waiting for a new game for Nintendo switch and all we get is a mobile game? I’m sad. 😢
