There has been a lot of debate in the Smash community over the competitive capability of Hero, a Fighter DLC character that released for Smash Ultimate during the summer. Nintendo France has now made a decision on whether the character should be allowed in the company’s official Smash Ultimate tournament. Nintendo France has banned Hero from the tournament, as well as every DLC character that will be released after September 23rd. Piranha Plant, Joker and Banjo-Kazooie will not be banned. A tweet relaying the news is down below.
OMG LOL OK so this is huge.
Nintendo France has BANNED HERO from the official Nintendo Smash tournament, on top of every DLC char released after Sept 23rd. Plant, Joker and Banjo, however, are LEGAL.
This means that even Nintendo considers Hero bannable from competition LOOOOL https://t.co/e5Yqx2r8WF

Makes sense. Hero’s effectiveness is so rooted in RNG you can’t really count on a balanced match against him. Pretty funny though.
the bigger issue with hero is one the average person might not expect; the language barrier.
if you are coming from another country to compete(which is very common if you are unfamiliar with competitive smash) and you cannot read the language being played you are at a severe disadvantage and just recently a prominent japanese player was knocked out of an american tournament due to him being unable to read hero’s spells
I would not say Hero sucks but i wonder whats the reason for this Hero DLC Ban for tournament?.
I guess I understand, but this kinda sucks. Hero is imo the most fun character to play on the roster.
I can see why they would disallow Hero- not only is he too reliant on RNG to get good spells in his down special, but practically half of them can KO at low-0%. There’s also the 5% critical hit thing which is impossible to determine if his next strike will be one unless it hits.
Let’s be real- Hero is too convoluted for his own good.
But why every DLC character after Hero? This means Terry will be banned in November too? That seems asinine to ban characters that aren’t even released yet.
In fan tournaments at least, they ban DLC characters that have only been out for a certain time because people haven’t gotten much practice with them, but seeing Banjo isn’t banned despite not being out that long it’s very silly to ban characters like Terry when he’s not even out yet.

Hero sucks I hate him and he was the one I was most hyped for. Banjo is good tho I don’t see why ban them.
They’re not banning him. Just Hero and every new character after Banjo.
Also, I definitely wouldn’t say Hero sucks, he’s one of the most fun characters to play as due to his absolutely chaotic nature.
He’s just not competitively viable for that same reason.

Oh wow, that’s an excellent point I hadn’t even considered.

After september 23rd I mean, just seems silly to me to ban characters that we don’t even know the moveset of.

I know right? i don’t know whats the reason for this.
I hate the idea of banning Hero in Smash. He is the only DLC fighter in this game worth buying so far. At least he’s not the only one being banned. It would be ironic if all the DLC fighters released after September 23rd are good ones. It’s a good thing I don’t live in France. Competitive Smash is dead and it was boring anyway. “Peach has such a good forward tilt.” Who cares?
This looks bad on Nintendo. Just allow Hero. You still have to be talented to win with him, and Joker is arguably better.
France:
“We don’t know how Terry will play. Shall we ban him just to be sure?”
“Oui.”

Competitive *SmUsh* is dead and boring anyway. FTFY
it will be a shame for all DLC characters get banned from the tournament after the fighter pass.
