We already covered some new Pokemon Sword and Shield details that were in the new issue of Game Informer earlier today, but there’s a couple more details that was revealed. According to Game Informer, there will be no HMs. Director Shigeru Ohmori also revealed in the issue that “there are 18 different types of Gyms in this story and depending on which version, which gyms are in the minor league and which gyms are in the major league are different. For example, in Sword the fighting type Gym will be in the major league, but in Shield, the Ghost Type. The idea is that every year, the Galar Region is playing and which Gyms make it into the minor league versus the Major League changes”. Pokemon Sword and Shield releases exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on November 15th.
Huh, they’re really going hard with the “sports team” concept of gyms this time around. Interesting.
well its based off England, so they are going with the major and minor leagues sort of like premier league soccer and English football league.
I just want an actual story like detective Pikachu type stuff maybe someday
it seems like they are going all out on this new core title. 18 gyms looks interesting.

No HMs!?
How am I supposed to cut down small trees and cross oceans now!?
maybe certain pokemon can do that by default?
havent really touched pokemon since gen 2, but it always felt bit of a waste to have those designated moves remembered and dictating the game.
True… it was always a bit irritating to waste move spots just for a measly cut or strength HM — I mean, it’s not like a Scyther is so stupid that it does not know how to cut stuff without an HM, or a Rhydon too dumb to move objects without the HM…
Most likely gonna be like Let’s GO where all of the HMs are tied to your starter Pokemon
Oh god no! Now how will we ever get past that bloody cracked rock blocking our path!? lol
Maybe now we’ll finally get a dark gym… At the cost of new megas.
Well considering there are 18 types, I’m thinking there will be one gym for each type

Oh thank God! If we never see HMs ever again in a Pokemon game, it’ll be too soon. That said, I wonder if they’ll do like Sun/Moon & have ride-able Pokemon that take the place of HMs. Or maybe they’ll just let the Pokemon act like actual animals & not be so dumb that they need some filthy human to teach them some special move to be able to do something a, as AKA-Link77 said, Scyther should know cut by default or a Machoke that should know strength by default. Or a bird Pokemon that should know how to bloody fly.

I hope during the making of these 18 gyms, another Pokemon title is already being developed in R&D. Like how BOTW2 was announced 2 years after BOTW was released seeing that developers can make games immediately but for some dumb reason majority choose not to after making a great game. And if Pikmin 4 is coming out they may as well start on Pikmin 5 and 6 since Nintendo is the 2nd slowest video game franchise maker I ever seen in my life.
The 1st goes to Ubisoft. Its october in Ubisoft hasn’t mentioned Mario Rabbids 2 yet.
If they could work on Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu and Sword and Shield all at the same time in R&D they also need to make another Pokemon title immediately. To keep with momentum.
