Playtonic talks about the potential future of the Yooka-Laylee franchise

Playtonic has recently released the excellent Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair which has many influences, but its primary one is the beloved Donkey Kong Country series. Speaking to Spanish video game site 3DJuegos, Mark Stevenson and Steve Mayles talked about the potential future of the Yooka-Laylee franchise and it would seem the team is open to almost anything.

“I think we’ll keep working on Yooka Laylee in the future. Really, we could work on any kind of game, a racing game like Mario Kart or a shooter like Splatoon. We’ve never intended Yooka and Laylee to be the protagonists of all of our games. On the future, we could make a spin-off with one of the many characters from Yooka Laylee, like Dr. Quack or Dr. Puzz. Being independent lets us follow whatever way we want and the one we think is right.”

  1. Wow Plantonic has a way less budget than Nintendo and already talking about the future. Where as rich Nintendo likes to not work on nothing until a new generation is about to come out

  2. 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓

I just hope they will do their best

  3. I’d like to see more of Yooka and Laylee- they’ve had two full outings of their own plus multiple guest appearances in other games.

That said, we might need to have a few more characters and lands introduced if they’re gonna do a Mario Kart-style racer- the only five big characters I know who’d likely work as drivers are Yooka and Laylee, Capital B, Dr. Quack, Dr. Puzz, and Trowzer!

Not worked on Pikmin 4 since Pikmin 3 from eight years ago says “hi.”

Who wanna bet Luigi Mansion 4 is not in the works until 2022?

    1. Nintendo is always working on something. Just because some franchises of theirs are abandoned for a while such as Star Fox or Pikmin doesn’t mean they aren’t working on something. As much as I love Pikmin I’m perfectly content with what they have currently.

      1. Only game they worked on immediately is BOW2. Nothing else came out immediately from Nintendo. A game like Pikmin 4 was near complete in 2015. It is 2019. Where is it? Answer= Nintendo lied.

      2. While we talking why arent they working on Starfox.

Let’s look at the Starfox franchise.

Released on SNES, N64, with no Rare Ware skipped Gamecube, Skipped Wii unless you count Starfox Asult. , finally on Wii U end of life cycle and not really orginal. No info on a new one for Switch(that means they not working on Starfox).

Yeah they really are always working on games right away.

I hope Pokemon is working on next Pokemon and dont release it in November and dont do nothing for 5.5 years.

  6. Or how about “Tooka-Laylee” (Yooka-Laylee 2), a.k.a. more 3D platforming, like the first game (and Banjo-Kazooie).
