Tencent, who has partnered with Nintendo to launch the Switch platform in China, is looking to leverage this connection to enable them to have a presence in North America and Europe with console games designed for American and European gamers. An anonymous Tencent official told The Wall Street Journal that they want to create video games staring Nintendo characters and get expert advice for making games from Nintendo. Here’s what was said:

“What we want is to expand from China, and one target is console game players in the U.S. and Europe,” said a Tencent official, who asked not to be identified. “We hope to create console games with Nintendo characters, and learn the essence of making console games from Nintendo engineers.”

  3. I hope Nintendo doesn’t do it. Last time they let someone that was trying to get into the video game business in America use a Nintendo IP, we got those filthy CD-i Zelda games. Keep them far away from Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, & Fire Emblem, at least. They can use Kirby, though! I don’t think Kirby has skeleton monsters.

    1. Don’t you fucking dare suggest that they taint the pink puff. Besides, he has plenty skeleton monsters… Wait, what do Skeletons have to do with this anyway?

  5. Uhhh, no. Maybe try making your own characters or something? I mean, you can be inspired by a Nintendo IP to make games, but to use their characters? You’d have to be Sakurai to get away with that.

  6. Animal Crossing is a perfect example of what a new region version can add to a game. AC on the N64 in Japan was lacking a lot of features of the “first game” that we know. No holidays, no Island, no… a bunch of other stuff… When NA got their hands on it, they added these things in, then Japan made a new version themselves (AC E+) which is a straight improvement to Population Growing in many ways.

Depending on what they’re planning, we could end up with certain games getting updates or even expansions for China, then this new content getting pushed to the West/Japan later on. We also could end up with some high quality spinoffs with the Chinese dev team coordinating with Nintendo to make em happen.

Plenty of game companies have made good spinoffs out of house before like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon Colusseum, Mario Party (Hudson Soft, makers of MP 1-8, wasn’t owned by Nintendo), and Super Mario Bros 2 (Doki Doki Panic just reskined with Mario). That being said, we could end up with some really interesting and unique spinoffs.

I’m really excited to see what the Chinese devs have to offer when it comes to adding to franchises I already know and love. I feel like a number of the franchises I’ve liked since I was a kid have gotten stale, such as Kirby, Yoshi, Smash, MP, etc, so it’ll be nice to see a fresh take on certain games. We could get Chinese New Years and a bunch of other nice items in Animal Crossing, we could get party games for Kirby, we could even get like a Smash Moba or something (DotA is one of the most popular games of all time in China), who knows…

    1. You aren’t seriously implying that we dislike 2nd party collaborations, right? That is one of the stupidest fucking things I’ve heard. No, we dislike TENCENT, NOT 2ND PARTIES. HAL LABOROTORY AND SORA AREN’T OWNED BY NINTENDO. WE LIKE 2ND PARTIES, NOT TENCENT.

  7. So is everyone just going to pretend that China doesn’t currently have roughly 3,000,000 people kept in concentration camps? Organ harvesting, forced abortions, rape, torture, murder…no? Just gonna keep acting like everything is fine? Ok, cool. Glad to see the world learned so much from the Holocaust and WWII /s

    1. Weird

why are you bringing that up in a comment section that has nothing to do about it. Don’t push you fucking political bullshit agenda in here. What does Tencent even have to do with fucking concentration camps

      1. So is everyone going to pretend that the USA kept 120,000 Japanese people during World War II? Racism, pedophiles who are heads in government, forced pregnancy, the Wall of Mexico… no? Just gonna keep acting like everything is fine? Ok, cool. Glad to see the world learned so much from the Holocaust and WWII /s

  8. Wow, you guys are literally deflecting what is happening CURRENTLY.
No I haven’t forgotten what we did while at war.
This is not that, this is not the same. Both are bad, but one is worse. It’s also currently happening right now as we speak.

How can you possibly deflect this news? lol Absolutely disgusting and a slap in the face to all the people currently held prisoner there.

  9. The Tencent thing just struck a nerve is all.
It made me think what it would be like to want to make deals with companies in Nazi Germany during WWII….and that didn’t feel right. So, no, I do not want to work with Tencent.

  10. And yea, sure…a border wall to stem the flow of illegal immigration is equally bad as ~3 million people tortured in concentration camps. My lord lol

  11. and before you get too upset over the wall comment (lulz), no I do not agree with it. But it’s painfully obvious these are not the same thing.
