Lead designer of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze returns to Retro Studios

Stephen Dupree, who was the lead designer on the stellar Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Donkey Kong Country Returns, has returned to Retro Studios after a stint at Playful. Dupree helped with the charming Super Luckys Tale on Xbox One, but has since returned to Retro Studios as principle game designer. Retro Studios is currently busy developing the long-awaited next entry in the Metroid Prime series.

  1. 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓

So we can expect a new DKC game from Retro. This is good.

  2. Can’t help but wonder why the shift between companies. Was Playful just not bringing in the income desired despite the quality output? Was it a matter of getting the opportunity to touch MP4’s development? Or was Retro finally able to work on another DKC alongside MP4? I’d love to see Liam Robertson get on this situation.

  3. Oh I want that DK jungle like music and water stage to return like on Tropical Freeze and Return. DK games always had great music. I wish Nintendo would sell the soundtracks from DK1-TF.
Yes of course I want a new DK game too.

      1. I know, at least 2 hrs of my total play time with tf is just listening to the music through earphones. Especially the water levels and frosted sweets
