Smash Bros fighter pass 2 containing 6 unannounced characters can be pre-purchased on 28th January

Today saw the introduction of the final character for Fighter Pass 1, who as you have seen, is Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The second Fighter Pass has been announced and will be available for pre-purchase on 28th January, which is the same day as Byleth comes to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The Fighter Pass 2 will contain 6 characters released by December 2021.

  1. Ok, hopefully there will be some more first party characters in this next pass, unlike just PP in the current.
    Koopa, toad or waluigu maybe

I’m ok with First party characters but not simple enemies becaming full playable characters.

Waddle Dee yes. But not Bandana Dee.

Mmmh I don’t know. With the addition of Byleth it seems that even newest VG character can be in Smash.

  2. Seriously though… I’m all for hype and showmanship… But wouldn’t it be more ethical to announce the fighters before people can purchase it? Sakurai said that they have already been decided.

    1. They aren’t finished. It would be extremely lame to get a word instead of a finished trailer and moveset showcase. Plus, it’s just me, but i like seeing what i paid for as we go. If someone isn’t down for that, they can buy it after all the fighters come out.

        1. yeah, but i wouldn’t care about the showcases if they weren’t showcasing anything new. for me, the biggest part is the thrill of seeing who’s new in an epic trailer

    2. I would be inclined to agree, but the ol’ hype train has become so ingrained with Smash Bros that I couldn’t imagine a world where they announce every fighter from day one.

Maybe it’s the crossover angle, how every fighter is technically a guest character coming in from a different respective universe with it’s own fanbase. But it really works, new fighter trailers are super exciting and creates a lot of buzz in the internet world. Something that couldn’t be replicated if we knew of said fighters beforehand. I could call it scummy on one hand, perhaps a necessary evil (to put it dramatically) on the other. But it is what it is, good marketing.

      1. What you’re saying makes sense. I just don’t understand why Sakurai has to make those statements when there is nothing holding them back from announcing the DLC content (other than marketing)

    3. Yes it would, I like how smash 4 handle dlc better than ultimate, I’m honestly sick of preordering for a wild card of characters rather than seeing them be reveal first hand deciding wheter to get them or not get them, and yes I do understand it’s an option for people to go head and buy the characters so they don’t have to worry to much, but imagine purchasing a house or anything that you haven’t seen yet. It be nice to at least hear what franchise the 6 dlc characters are coming from at least will be able to speculate more, and the surprise factor would still somewhat be there.

      1. Yeah, I don’t think much hype would be lost. They could give the 6 names and not reveal the order. And really… I can’t think of any reveal trailers that were surprising except for K.Rool and Banjo. Every other one you just kinda knew within the first few seconds who it was.

Plus, if you’re not crazy about the character, then you can make peace with that fact before the trailer comes and it’ll cut down on all the salt we see on days like this.

    4. Or even just announce which developers/series the characters are coming from as a hint, and let the speculation flow from there

    My wishlist:
    1) DooM Guy/Slayer from DooM.
    2) Crono from Chrono Trigger.
    3) Crash from Crash Bandicoot.

And, of course, Bandana Dee but I hardly believe that he will be a full playable character. Those are the characters. I only want those.

  4. NO MORE CHARACTERS, MAN! I can’t afford to keep buying the amiibo. Every time I tell myself to stop, it kills me when I know they’ve been released (especially when I see them on store shelves). Even though every one gets packed away and out of sight (most of the time), I still keep buying those over-priced pieces of plastic. And tomorrow, Dark Samus and Richter will be joining the collection.

    1. I wanted to collect all the Smash Bros amiibo. I then realized I wasn’t hardly using them and could resell them for a good chunk.

I’m glad I did because, and this is just my weird quirk, it would have bothered me WAY TOO MUCH to have Smash 4 renders mixed with Ultimate’s renders.

  5. Just… No more swordsmen from the Fire Emblem series please.
    As for my wish list:
Shantae (Shantae series) special moves taken from either 1/2 Genie Hero, Pirate’s Curse or both.
Zero (Mega Man Zero) after all, classic Zero is an assist trophy and Mega Man Zero has more weapons.
    Eggman (Sonic)
Isaac (Golden Sun) yeah, another swordsman, but I still want him.
    Bandana Dee (Kirby)
    Proto Man (Mega Man)
Alucard (Castlevania) yeah he’s an assist trophy but I still want him.

      A d not CD-i Link in Smash? Come on…

  6. Gosh, I don’t even know what 6 characters I would want… Let alone what 6 I would predict as being most likely. It’s very strange where the Smash roster is compared to 10 or 15 years ago.

The only thing I feel I can bet on right now is not even a character but a Mii costume. I’m betting the return of Geno Mii Gunner but with a full head too and packaged with the Forest Maze music.
