Nintendo has updated Nintendo 3DS lifetime sales which are now at a staggering 75.71 million worldwide. However, with the success of the Nintendo Switch platform, and the transition, hardware sales were bound to drop. The Kyoto-based company only shifted 620,000 Nintendo 3DS systems worldwide between March and December 2019 which is a 73 percent drop. Here’s how it stacks up overall against its predecessors:
Console | Hardware Sales (Million) | Software Sales (Million) |
Game Boy / Game Boy Color | 118.69 | 501.11 |
Game Boy Advance | 81.51 | 377.42 |
Nintendo DS | 154.02 | 948.69 |
Nintendo 3DS | 75.71 | 382.22 |
Shame they discontinued the ACTUAL 3DS models (all that’s left is the 2DS and 2DS XL). I wanted to still have the 3D effect on my new unit after my old model couldn’t stay on for longer than 5 minutes without being plugged in, so I had to buy a refurbished one. Not a bad investment.

Nice. But I’m surprised the sales aren’t even higher. Heck, even I bought like 4 of them. The new 3DS XL was the worst because of the stupid memory card being internal. Which is what caused me to buy the new 2DS XL Hylian Shield edition.
And btw, I’m SO sick of always having to sign out, and then back in for each individual post.
I take that back. I have 5. Thanks a lot Nintendo for making so darn many editions.
I wish they never discontinued the Regular New Nintendo 3DS here. I’m still looking for one.
No new games, then no 3ds sell.
Lowest selling handheld in Nintendo’s history. Even the GBA with only 5 years on the market outsold it!
