Nintendo president doesn’t believe next gen systems will significantly impact Switch business

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa is confident that the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X won’t significantly impact Nintendo Switch sales. Despite the interest in these consoles being sky high on the internet, Mr. Furukawa doesn’t think they will chip away at Nintendo’s core business.

“We do not believe that the business trends of other companies will have a significant impact on our business.”

  1. Well to be honest, the Xbox Series X isn’t going to have exclusive games for another 2 years and PS5 might not have full exclusives either with some games actually being moved to PC. The PS4, Xbox One and Wii U are the last generation we’ll see “Exclusive” games.

I see Microsoft and Sony releasing their games on their own platforms, but also releasing games on other platforms like the Nintendo Switch, PC and possibly Mobile.

    1. Highly, highly doubt it. Perhaps Microsoft as they spiral off into irrelevance, but Sony and Nintendo still poor hundreds of millions of dollars into first party titles specifically for the purpose of being exclusive games to push their hardware. Sony in particularly tends to steeply discount these games they’ve poured dump trucks of cash into developing just to promote their platform as a desirable brand. If it werene’t for exclusivity, titles like PS4 Spider-Man wouldn’t exist *at all*.

    2. But… Microsoft bought a crap ton of developers so that way they could compete on a first party basis. They unveiled it years ago and that they already were working on new games for the “future of xbox”

I think they knew 2 plus years ago their first party titles were lacking in number so they are going all out this time with series x.

The upside to Microsoft going pc also is that they can get more back from their first party titles than only doing a console release. I am just wondering how much each new console is gonna be. If they come out at $400 I think that is a steal and would be pretty mind blowing. At 500 you cool off and go kinda pricey. 600 is definitely a nogo. That is probably going to end peoples faith in any of the new gen consoles if any of them are that price.

      1. But by insisting on the whole “& Windows 10” thing, they kill their own console. What’s the point of buying a Microsoft console when you will have their exclusives on PC at a better quality and with a more accessible price?

  2. 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓

Microsoft already said that their aren’t interested in making portable consoles and don’t see the Switch as a competitor. Now depends on what Sony is going to show with their PS5.

    1. Yeah, because Sony’s PS Vita isn’t going very well as they expect so, they decided to drop the whole portable handheld thing and wanted to start something fresh and reliable.

As for Microsoft, I honestly don’t know. Because they want more power and energy for Xbox users.

  3. Shuntaro’s putting his face in a hornet’s nest by saying that. Soon SSD consoles will take over and no one will want a crappy portable HDD one.

    1. You are an absolute idiot if you’re one of those guys who think SSD is going to change games. It doesn’t matter that SSD is faster than HDD, it’s still the main bottleneck in loading and saving data. Even worse is that you have a limited amount of data transfer until the medium starts to fail. The main benefit of SSD is faster/no visible loading times. A nice feature but nothing revolutionary. On a good SSD you can write to the same place in memory about 3000 times until it starts to degrade. With DRAM you might have 3000 write cycles to the same place every single second and your RAM can do that for decades without failing.

      1. Well dont forget the other benefit being tht game file sizes will shrink.
Since they dont hav to “duplicate” the files in said games to actively load out the game when playing, like HDD does.

  4. Honestly, Sony isn’t going to have much exclusive games on PS5 anyway. I still believe that Nintendo Switch sales will still keep going in to impact for another year or whatever. I know people are excited to get the next gen consoles like Xbox Series X and PS5, but future Nintendo consoles needs some popularity and adjustments in order to keep impacting the sales on the systems.

Everything will change for the gaming companies who make such a powerful console in the world with more chips. I’m no expert of inside hardwares, but, Nintendo is trying to make up for there mistakes they had for there previous consoles.

  5. Yeah,

So long as Nintendo cares more about their first-party titles rather than potential third-party titles, just like the Wii U era.

Still waiting for Ultra Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Sonic Generations, Sonic 4: Episode II, and J-Stars Victory Vs. (Games that skipped the Wii/Wii U).

  6. I didn’t think we were doing console wars anymore. I thought most everyone was on the same page that you can just buy (or not buy) multiple consoles so you can play whatever games you want.

  7. Nintendo doesn’t compete with Sony or Microsoft anymore.

They are competing now with Apple !

Lot’s of missed sales when iPhones, iPad got released in Wii U era.
The Wii didn’t had to compete with Apple yet for the casual market.

Nintendo doesn’t have the infrastructure yet or want to compete with consoles that have a focus on big online games.

They focus is on casual market and children with cheaper hardware and titles like Pokemon.
That’s why at every release of new hardware when the power of the hardware is still fresh they first target the more hardcore core with games like Mario and Zelda.

They are the Disney of the east and have a core audience but need a casuals to keep expanding the brand and bring in fresh blood.

If Apple didn’t exist and we didn’t had iPhone or tablet market, imagine what people would do with all that money they could not spend. It would be going to Nintendo and other stuff. People wanted to be entertained.

Before the iPhone everyone had money to spend on the Wii.

If you ask why they didn’t spend money on a Wii U or Switch they point at their phone, they already have access to games int heir pocket AND they are free !

Not only that but most of the people around them like friends and family also can join in easily because we all own a smartphone now.

If Nintendo didn’t put much passion and love on their brands like Mario, Zelda and other characters, we would not have that core Disney, Nintendo fanboy audience and nobody would see the point in buying Nintendo hardware.

Instead of milking out and easy cash grabs, Nintendo did a good thing by having a passion for their games with great polish , entertainment value and art. They still pick up the fruits from their past labour.

    My poo poo stinks.

  8. Not sure if it’s a possibility but i hope Sony ports the Neptunia games from Vita on PlayStation at some point. That was really the only games i was interested in. I’ve played most of the Neptunia games excluding the games from Vita.
