Animal Crossing: New Horizons will have a save backup feature for Switch Online Users

Nintendo has confirmed this morning that the upcoming Animal Crossing: New Horizons will feature a save backup feature for Nintendo Switch Online members. The quotation from the company doesn’t make it clear whether this feature will be available at launch. Though they do say that they will keep us all updated regarding its progress.

This software does not support “Cloud save backup” feature in Nintendo Switch Online. We are planning to have a save backup function for this software, available to Nintendo Switch Online users. Schedule of this feature is unconfirmed. We will keep you update.

  1. I just want to slap Nintendo, John Nintendo, in the face and ask why is their infrastructure so grounded in 2005.
I’m paying for the stupid service to back my games in the cloud, except when Nintendo doesn’t let me, so that this game that also won’t let me save it in the cloud that I’m paying, will receive another form of back up which I still have to pay for with the same service I’m already paying? Why the fuck not include it in the first place? Was Animal Crossing New Leaf such a cesspool of destruction and degeneracy, that Nintendo chose to stop their customers from having fun?
Good lord. I’m gonna wait on this title, man.

  2. My guess is this backup system is going to come with a set of limits. With the cloud service; you can restore as much as you want but with this, I’m willing to bet there will, at the very least, be a time limit between you restoring your saves.
For example; once you’ve restored your save, you can’t restore it again for at least 7 days which would greatly reduce save scumming.
I mean I guess that’s a good idea but…why they can’t just implement this into the actual cloud service is where I makes no sense.

Okay, I get your frustration and I do agree it should be included with the cloud service but..don’t you think you’re over-reacting abit? While their methods may be abit weird, at least they are doing something about it. Trust me when I say there’s a lot of companies out there that would simply do nothing.

  4. The quote is a little unclear. It’s possible they mean the game *currently* doesn’t support cloud saves, but will in the future with a patch. That would make sense to me, as coming up with their own implementation would likely take a lot more work. I guess we’ll find out when they’re ready to tell us more.

    1. It won’t. It says on the box it won’t support cloud saves. This feature they’re implementing is something completely separate. Cloud saves would make it too easy to cheat, and the devs spoke against it last E3. And since each Switch only allows a single island, it could easily result in save data corruption if you were to transfer an island that has multiple user’s data associated with it. There’s just too many possible problems with having cloud saves.
