You may have seen conflicting reports from former Game Informer editor Imran Khan circulating last night regarding Sora in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Apparently it was said that Disney denied Nintendo the opportunity to use Sora in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. However this doesn’t seem to be the case as Khan went on the Kinda Funny Gamescast to speculate who he expects to see as the next big Super Smash Bros Ultimate character. Mr Khan expects it to be either Sora from Kingdom Hearts or Master Chief from the Halo franchise.

From Fire Emblem I lost my hopes for Hector after Byleth reveal.

I’ve seen more complaints about Byleth being another FE character than another swordfighter. I think people are fine with swordfighters as long as the majority aren’t all from the same franchise. Dante, Travis, Sora, Rex, Isaac and Crono would all be welcomed wholeheartedly from how often they come up, and they could all very easily have alternatives or gimmicks thrown in their kits to mix them up.
Why Dante? He literally has been on no platform than the switch and even there it’s only been ports of the first three games (not even as a bundle but as a cash grab) He doesnt deserve a spot in smash

Yeah, the only difference is that Cloud was picked as first in a poll on who to add as their newest addition onto the roster in Smash 4 ( as a DLC character)
And I doubt that Squenix would say no to a rep in Smash. Who in their right mind would?

Sora has, objectively, contributed dramatically more to the industry than Byleth. You’re free not to like him. That’s fine. It just isn’t a very interesting argument because its based only on your personal feelings.

Crono is absolutely 100% nothing like Goku. Literally the only similarity is they were both drawn by Akira Toriyama. If characters looking similar disqualifies them, how on earth do you justify 75% of FE characters?

Can the condescending attitude. People know full well what Fire Emblem is. Its just also true that Fire Emblem has always been a niche series, with a relatively small group of dedicated fans. Turns out, gearing a whole slew of charters interesting only to 20-25% of the audience leaves people irritated. It doesn’t mean they’re not good characters, it just means Smash is a bigger series with a more diverse audience.

I have seen people on this site writing things like “what is even Fire Emblem” and the likes. Probably trolls, but I also think this just indicates the niche factor of the game. I really loved that Byleth was added into Smash, but I kind of felt bad for people that wanted their favourite games to be represented.
FE was so unheard of back in the days that I kind of feel blessed by their representation in Smash, but I want others to have that same feeling as well. I really can’t enjoy Byleth, like I could with Terry. Problem is Nintendo wants their newest games to be exposed :/ Hope that people will be more pleased with Fighter Pass 2. I don’t think Byleth’s reveal was fun for people the most.
Byleth was a boring pick because there are already so many FE reps, and they also went with another emotionless, drab avatar character. I love FE, but Byleth was an awful pick. Literally any other character from 3H would’ve been more exciting.
Of course Byleth was a bad pick but there is no need to slander the character and fucking go wild like some people have and send death threats to sakurai.
Just accept the DLC fighters you don’t want as is and move on with life like I have.

Sora’s moveset has a whole lot more options than a typical fire emblem character. Summons, drive forms, keyblade form changes to other types of weapons. Shoot, they could even include those weird theme park ride attacks that slowed KH3 combat to a halt.
I see your point, however Byleth also has a unique set, so why are they SO upset about it?

I don’t agree with the mindset, and I really didn’t care about Byleth, but I understand the emotional reaction. You only get a new character every once in awhile. This was the last fighter in a set, so it will be a good long while. You want something that’ll excite you, and instead you got something not only you don’t care about, but is the most predictable option

The best FE is the 7th installment called just “Fire Emblem” on the GBA. Would recommend that if you want something a bit more modern than the 1th.
The main reason we didn’t like Byleth isn’t because he’s a swordsman, no way, he barely even uses a sword. It’s because he’s a fire emblem character, there’s just too many and also he’s a 1st party character in a 3rd party pass as the final fighter, which is very anti climatic. And his moves are just slow and not that great for competitive. You’re crazy if you want another fire emblem rep.

I couldn’t care less about who gets into the game, I bought Pass 1 on release and I did the same with Pass 2.

I agree with you(expect about my main boi Terry). I seriously wouldn’t mind another FE-character. But would have been fun with Hector or something a little different (weird how everyone wants Hector and Ephraim here, but people do have good taste I guess xP). Joker was boring, but it was fun that Banjo actually showed up, but I never play him.
Master Chief would be fun. It’s like so impossible that it actually would be a bit surprising in some ways. Would love Crash Bandicoot as well. I’m pretty pleased with the roster so I really won’t complain about the next characters. But Dante, Minecraft Steve and something Fortnite related would bother me somewhat.

Aside from the “Another sword character” being a running meme that most just say for laughs, I think the main reason is the fact that it’s a sword character from Fire Emblem specifically.
Not only is Fire Emblem seen as over-represented in Smash but on top of that all of them use a sword. I think if someone that does use a sword is to be brought in, it would be much better received if the character is from something that isn’t Fire Emblem.

As someone who does enjoy Kingdom Hearts, but also enjoys what Smash represents, I just gotta say imo, anyone who wants Sora in Smash, is almost as bad as those that want Goku or Shrek in Smash.
You cant have Sora in Smash, without bringing in the Disney aspects. You need the Disney aspects, or else whats the point at all in having Sora? It will just be a neutered character without really being a “representative” of what his game series IS. If you DO add in the Disney stuff, that is opening up Pandora’s Box and people will be pushing for every non-video game originating IP in existence just because “it did have a game made about it that one time!” If we start doing that, Smash losses a HUGE part of its identity and what is stands for. Some people will just say “DOESN’T MATTER AS LONG AS ITS FUN”, yet cant grasp the importance of a game or series having an identity to it. People are already complaining that Smash is too much of a marketing machine for 3rd party characters, do you really want corporate mascots getting in and doing the same thing?
SMASH may no longer be just Nintendo characters, but there is a MAJOR leap between adding Dante and adding Ronald McDonald. Unfortunately, many people asking for Sora do not see that he just blurs that line too much to be safe to add to Smash. Yes there are original aspects of the games, but unless Square somehow pulls off a complete Super Robot Wars: Original Generation reboot of the entire series, having Sora in without the Disney stuff is not a representation of Sora at all. People didnt get into the series from the Organization 13 stuff.
Smash should ultimately stay far away from KH and messing with anything so questionable in order to maintain a type of “purity” to what it is: a gathering and celebration of video games and nothing outside that. As much as I would prefer characters that did have a presence on Nintendo platforms in the past, I would even take someone as ludicrous as Master Chief in Smash over Sora. If someone TRULY loved both Kingdom Hearts and Smash, they would know Sora would not be a fit for Smash, you would be misrepresenting either a character or a franchise. Pick your poison.
Sad thing is, I could see him getting added, just from the swell of people that dont understand the risks of adding him would bring. I am hoping beyond hope that Sakurai is the voice of reason and steps in and squashes any type of possibility of adding KH to Smash. Not because he hates the series or anything, but because he knows what Smash truly is and the dangerous involved if Sora was added and how it could potentially damage the series image.

Never really got into Kingdom Hearts or Halo, but I suppose seeing Master Chief (with maybe an Arbiter alt) would be a little dope to me.
…and I also suppose seeing Donald in Goofy in a Smash Brothers game would warm even my cold heart, though it would be incredibly lame were it just Sora (what’s even the point without the Disney crossover).
Still gunning for DOOM, Shantae, DMC, and Puyo Puyo, (Geno would be nice too) but this game’s roster is already perfect so I’m fine with whatever.

Dope means someone that’s stupid, or drugs. It is NOT a word for cool. And neither is “tight”. No offense, but I face-palm today’s generation. I have some issues with Sora (issues that I believe might be what’s kept me from playing Kingdom Hearts), but he’s sure better than Master Chief or Byleth.
I REALLY want an RPG open world adventure sort of game with an all-star cast of characters. Something similar to Kingdom Hearts, but lots of Nintendo worlds to explore, and characters to interact with. And cameos from third party games. I’d be SO much more interested in character announcements if it was an RPG like this instead of Smash Bros. I’m SO done with Smash Bros.
