The silence on Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally about to end. Nintendo has just announced that an Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct will be taking place on February 20th at 9am Eastern Time, which is 2pm UK time. The Direct will be 25 minutes long. According to Nintendo, it will featue “an in-depth look at Nook Inc.’s Deserted Island Getaway Package“. Nintendo‘s announcement tweet can be seen down below.
I knew this was coming. BUT where’s the BIG direct that everyone’s so eagerly waiting for??
There will be no general direct. The big direct is coming directly at E3.
This has been the rumoured date for some time – congratulations to whoever it was who spread that particular rumour

So, will the first full Direct come out before E3? Or did Nintendo just not do one this year?
I think a general direct is going to happen at the beginning of March.
I’m thinking it’ll be next week. Obviously I’m taking this with a grain of salt, but rumors denote two Directs this month. AC focused one and a general one made sense to me, so a general Direct next week makes enough sense imo

I’m getting the game but really been waiting a long time for them to go in depth and show how this is a step forward for the series, hopefully this will happen in the direct.
I really don’t understand the hype for this game lol I bought new leaf on 3ds and played for 20 minutes and never again lol
It isnt for everyone. I played new leaf 13 hours straight the day of release. And easily clocked in over 1,000 hours into it. It’s more than just a game to me, it’s a great escape, way to connect with old friends and be creative.
There is a fanbase for this game. But personally, I heard this game is played mostly by females.
I tend to agree. I mean I am a trans woman, but I also know a lot of other trans women who play the games.
While I’m excited for more Animal Crossing news, we’re really overdue for a general one since this year looks very dry with new releases.
Right its almost like nintendo really doesn’t have anything else to show off, hopefully will be seeing something sometime in march or next week, I wish we got a general before an animal crossing that way a lot people wouldn’t be upset
I’m hearing rumors that we’re getting a new Paper Mario in spirit of the first games but it feels too good to be true.
This Direct might be for the better that it came out first. When the next big Direct comes out it won’t have to use any time for Animal Crossing and can focus on new games. That said I am really hype for the Animal Crossing Direct but it’s definitely time for a full blown Direct.
Unfortunately Nintendo isn’t doing great now because they are already preparing the stuff to show at E3.
They brought back mario party to its roots whats to say they won’t do it for paper mario, sure there are certain elements missing, but you can tell nintendo has been listening to their fans a little
Are these games good? It is hard to get an unbiased opinion on them. The fanbase is crazy for these games, but getting an honest review from a crazed fanbase can be tough.
I’m a fan of the series but let me give you the awful truth , alot of people can get into this series, and alot of people can’t get into the series, it’s best for you to give it a try yourself rather than go upon other people’s thoughts, imo it’s a life simulator that’s has lot more to it than any average life simulator, you can see the sweat and tears through the details and dialouge of villagers and even npcs that theres effort put into these games , but like I said animal crossing isn’t everyone so its one of the games you either like or don’t like, if you do however want to get into the series try new leaf, wild world, or the orginal on gamecube I say this cause new leaf has alot of new features and new things, wild world is a easier game to obtain and is a great game to play anywhere, and the gamecube version has a lot of charm to it
If you can, I would emulate Animal Crossing on the gamecube to give you an idea of what the series is like. It’s really hard to recommend Animal Crossing because people either seem to love it or find it extremely boring.
Like shinygold2 said, try to emulate the Gamecube original. If you enjoy it, get New Horizons. This way you can experience where the series started to where it’s at now. You might be able to appreciate this new one more if you play the original first.
I, for one, believe the lack of a Direct for this long is very telling.
And it says this year will be about ports only for the Switch. At least for the most part.
Which is fine by me, really. I’ve been waiting to play some games on the go since the Vita days, with the Switch this is finally being addressed.
I’m just hoping for a release date for Bord3rlands, BioShock collection, Samurai Shodown, among other games. Been having a great time with AC: Black Flag, Witcher 3 and Torchlight 2. Definitely worth owning a Switch to play those on the go, the only thing that lets me down is the battery capacity. Oh well.
It seems that the Nintendo direct schedule is not based around game releases and each direct will focus on just one upcoming game similar to how it is with Pokémon, Smash Ultimate, Luigis Mansion etc.
With E3 in June, the window for a general direct for Switch is closing fast. The closer we get to June, the less sense a general direct will make.
I get the feeling we won’t have that many general Directs anymore, except from Nindies. Might get one in the fall and one before E3, but I think these dedicated Directs will pop up more and more frequently.

Hard to make a direct if you already released all the Nintendo AA games.
The future only has Metriod in the far distance, a Pikmin game and Bayonetta.
All the rest are ports and Indies.

It’s not a law to release a Direct every January, February of the year.

I’m just patiently waiting for Metroid though I don’t really care or am mad about directs at all. For example, I don’t care about there being an animal crossing direct instead of a regular one since I’m already playing metroid prime 3 on the original trilogy collection, and having a great time!
Yeah, maybe more people should actually PLAY their games instead of playing this stupid hype train game?
