Reggie Fils-Aime to join GameStop’s board of directors

nintendo_minute_reggie_smash_ultimate
GameStop has announced that former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is joining GameStop’s board of directors. Mr Fils-Aime’s job will be to turn around the company’s fortunes which is clearly a huge challenge. Reggie joins Bill Simon and J.K. Symancyk.

“The board refreshment and governance enhancements announced today represent an important milestone in GameStop’s transformation as we continue to evolve the company’s business strategy for long-term success,” GameStop chief executive George Sherman said. “We are pleased to welcome Reggie, Bill, and J.K. to the board. They are each highly qualified and bring significant, relevant experience to our turnaround. We look forward to immediately benefitting from their expertise and perspectives as we navigate the evolving gaming and retail environments, execute on our strategic initiatives and prepare the Company to maximize value-creation associated with the next generation of console launches later this year.”

    1. “better trade values”

This is the part I always have to argue with other gamers about. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Gamestop’s trade values. They’re in line with wholesaling a used product, which is what you’re doing. As with all retail, they need to on average double what they pay you in order to be viable after the costs of running the business. In order to do that, they have to offer on average less than that 50%, as a certain portion of games will lower in price inbetween the time that GS buys them from you and they are sold. Then you have games that they don’t even *want* to buy because they will literally never sell them, but they at least offer you something for it.

It is legitimately the most fair and honest portion of the company, yet gamers scream about it because they don’t typically have any sense of what wholesale value is.

    1. I bet Reggie is there for some quick bucks and waiting for the inevitable doom GS is facing, so he can go back to his retirement again – just a little richer.

  1. I don’t know if Reggie’s going to be the savior everyone thinks he will be- remember that nonsensical censorship at NoA like removing the bust slider from Xenoblade Chronicles X and removing the revealing outfits from Fatal Frame occurred during his tenure there.

    1. He ran the company. Something like localization changes is an incredibly small decision that he probably didn’t make nor cared about.

      1. Not critical to the game, per se, but definitely critical to the character creation. The only thing I believe they really needed to do with the bust slider was decrease the maximum size you could have made the boobs. Then again, some people probably wanted to give their female character gravity defying giant boobies. lol Nothing wrong with that.

    2. He was terrible for us, I can’t believe people ignore how anti consumer he was during the Wii and Wii U days. He took all the perks we had and catered to the casual, never cared for the die hard and took credit for project rain, even though he was the driving force against localising those 3 games. Club Nintendo died at his watch, and I mean years before it was replaced.

Reggie was so bad that Iwata had to take over running NoA, Reggie was and will always be a terrible part of Nintendo’s History. I’m so glad he’s gone.

      1. What is this? What perks did we have? How did he cater to casuals and leave out die hard fans? And are you really sitting here defending Club Nintendo? Really? The service wasnt even good.

      2. “how anti consumer he was during the Wii and Wii U days.”

Going to give a single example?

“He took all the perks we had and catered to the casual, never cared for the die hard”

Going to give a single example?

” took credit for project rain, even though he was the driving force against localising those 3 games.”

How do you know any of that? What’s your inside source of private NOA meetings?

“Club Nintendo died at his watch, and I mean years before it was replaced.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean Reggie had anything to do with it. How do you know he wasn’t ordered to phase out physical rewards by NOJ?

“Reggie was so bad that Iwata had to take over running NoA”

        Citation needed.

    3. I attribute that bullshit more to Treehouse than Reggie. (It doesn’t fully exempt him from it since he was the NoA president & he could have told them to reign it in since he was over them as they were part of NoA.) It’s sad that so many companies use localization as an excuse to censor crap. Especially today with Funimation, Sentai, etc, etc. I get it, though. Gotta cater to the fake woke people on Twatter & RetardEra.

  2. I am pretty confident that Reggie, Bill Simon, and J.K. Symancyk can help turn around the negative image that surrounds GameStop and hopefully turn most of the nasty stores into amazing stores like the one we have over here.

  3. I never understood people’s hate towards Gamestop. Because I don’t do the things that those haters do. Such as trade in games etc. I only go there now & then to see if there’s any super cheap used games. And to buy the ocassional new game or preorder. My biggest complaint about Gamestop is the small stores. They need to be bigger. I’m sick of people getting in my way when I’m trying to look at games. Sometimes I can’t even get to what I want to look at because of people standing in the way. Then I have to just turn around and leave. Damn small store.

  4. Oh great, now these YouTube Nintendo Switch news mafia can spam our recommend with MORE GameStop click bait thumbnails.

My crazy story about GameStop, my toilet story about GameStop, my ….

About Reggie, it looks like he loves to fix things. He wants a challenge and prob. got bored at successful Company like Nintendo. He wants to be aggressive like the Wii era. and yet he doesn’t want to work long hours anymore.

  5. Waaait a minute. Didn’t he leave Nintendo because he wanted to spend more time with his family? And now he wants to waste time on a dead company.

    1. +bootyranger
I mean, there’s no law saying once you retire that you cannot go back into work. Maybe he simply changed his mind? Or perhaps his family doesn’t have the same amount of free time he would have had so he decided to put that time to use?
No way of drawing conclusions unless we hear it from the man himself.
