VGC Rumour: Nintendo plans to celebrate Mario’s 35th anniversary with Switch re-releases and new Paper Mario

Online gaming site Video Games Chronicles has published a juicy rumour this afternoon. The site says that Nintendo has big plans to celebrate Super Mario’s 35th Anniversary and plans to re-release a number of classic Mario games for the Nintendo Switch platform. The site has also heard that this will include a brand new Paper Mario title. The site says that Super Mario 35th Anniversary reveal was planned as a physical event at E3 in June, but since that has been canceled, the firm is likely to include it as a digital showcase.

  1. That’s pretty lame if they’re re-releasing old titles. Have some original ideas, Nintendo. Also Paper Mario was dead after TTYD.

Its an anniversary. The literal purpose is to celebrate the past. Then, your immediate next sentence is disregarding a potential new release.

      Low tier trolling.

    2. To say Nintendo doesn’t have original titles is laughable. Mario 65 was a STAPLE. Revolutionary for a 3D Platformer. Whether it means a VC release or a revamped version, I’m sure MILLIONS would appreciate this news. Also the original Paper Mario had insane potential and Nintendo would be crazy to let the series die. Just because there have been past Paper Mario titles that didn’t review too well, doesn’t mean scrapping the whole series all together. I myself would still love to see Paper Mario as a character in Smash Bros.

Did you read the article carefully?

I think Nintendo is going to do the same thing they did with the Wii. Remember the release of Super Mario all Stars for Wii? Now think the same thing but with all the 3D Mario platforms. Super Mario 3D All Stars.

It’s just a speculation of mine.

    1. Eh….. maybe, but Super Mario All-Stars for the 25th was just a port of the SNES game Super Mario All-stars. Very different from creating a completely new product.

True but it can be the same thing here but with an emulator instead of a port.

  3. Best rumour ever, I truly hope that this is true. I can’t wait to play Sunshine and Galaxy in 1080p 60 fps, hopefully.
Everything else that is rumoured is just the extra cherry on top.

    Bring it on Nintendo! :D

  4. I’m on board for remasters of Mario 64 and Galaxy 1 and 2, but I doubt we’re getting all three of those or any more of them.

…Unless they’re doing one each year between the 35th and 40th anniversaries. Year 1 is Mario 64 HD, year 2 is Mario Sunshine HD, you get the idea. Even that sounds like a stretch though.

  6. As Skeletons said earlier, I want a Super Mario Sunshine remaster/remake. There was something special about that Mario game that I haven’t felt since then. I loved it SO much more than Odyssey. The beach, the tropical music, those wacky Piantas. I’ve been wanting a remaster/remake for SO long.
