VGC rumour: Mario Galaxy + Sunshine + 64 will be one pack while Mario 3D World will be a separate game

More details have emerged this morning regarding Nintendo’s plans for the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise. Video Games Chronicles says that Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy re-releases will be produced as one Nintendo Switch physical collection as a special anniversary collection of games. Super Mario 3D World will be sold separately and will feature new content and levels.

On the topic of the return of the Paper Mario franchise for the Nintendo Switch platform, Venture Beat reports that the game will be a return to the series roots. It will feature plenty of RPG action and will be more like earlier entries rather than the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U entries.

This array of Super Mario titles to celebrate the franchise’s 35th anniversary was planned to be announced at E3 this June, but plans have changed due to the coronavirus pandemic spreading throughout the world.

  1. If this is true it will be actually amazing but without sounding like the spoiled child here, that 3 game collection would feel just a little incomplete to me without Super Mario Galaxy 2, even if it were to be added later as paid DLC.

But who am I kidding, before all this started coming out, a 64, Sunshine and Galaxy HD remaster collection coming this year would have been a pipe dream to me, so I’ll accept whatever I’m given!

And I’ll be the first person lining up to buy the amazing Mario 3D World again too, and new content would be wonderful.

    1. Super Mario Galaxy actually made me feel a little motion sick in the beginning. Due to being able to run underneath and all around planets. But I quickly got used to it the longer I played. But it’s a different story with first-person games. All of those types make me extremely motion sick and I can’t play them. Thank goodness no Mario games were first-person.

      1. Well i didn’t get motion sickness when i first started to play the game. It would be nice to play this once again. I really love Super Mario Galaxy game. Even Super Mario Sunshine.

      Just like last year.

  2. I cant believe people are buying this, TBH. Why would Nintendo bundle games that they could sell separately? If this has any shred of truth, they’d sell them individually, over the course of months. Maybe sell as a discount if bought as a package (i.e. smash DLC packs) but if people think you’re going to get Galaxy, Sunshine, etc for the cost of a single game ($60) then Nintendo has been taken over by aliens and we’re truly in the end times.

  3. In my memory, Galaxy is still my favorite Mario game. It was just very epic and beautiful imo. I’d love to replay it on Switch to see if my memory holds up. Odyssey has such a great feel to Mario’s movement… It’s gonna be a close call.

That said… This just like a textbook example of “too good to be true”.

I mean… It’s totally possible. It’s not unreasonable. It makes sense from a business and creative standpoint.

    But… It’s just simply… Too good to be true…

  4. At first I was uncertain, now I am certain….that this is all a bunch of rubbish. Mario 3D World DX? Now THAT I believe as it’s the one Wii U Game that was successful that they HAVEN’T PORTED YET! But….giving away remasters of Galaxy, Sunshine and 64 in one $60 package instead of paying $180 ($60 each)? I would love a new Paper Mario in the style of 64 and 1000 Year Door BUT This is the same company that’s STILL so far behind the times, that they are still using Peer to Peer for Splatoon 2! I am sorry…but this is too good to be true.

  5. The question is, are any of these getting a Zelda 3DS esque remake? Same bones but new models and graphics, few ease of experience tweeks. If no work done to these, I could see an affordable bundle.

    My prediction
Mario 64 gets Zelda OoT 3ds treatment, sold individually.
Sunshine, no new graphics, sold individually.
Galaxy 1 and 2 need a lil wiimote transfer work, no new graphics, bundled together.

  6. So it comes with one pack in each game huh? I’m ok with the collocation. I seen most collocations out there with one pack for each games like Street Fighter. Sonic, and a few others.

  7. It just occured to me the amount of spice this could throw into the speedrunning community if they add something to, or tweak around SM64 a bit.

Having these already along with their original systems, I’ll probably just buy one to keep sealed, as I wish I’d done for the 25th.

It seems the rumour has some credibility after all. Even Emily Rogers said about “It’s a good year to be a Plumber“, meaning that this rumour has credibility

  9. Seems bizarre to put Galaxy with Sunshine and 64 and just leave Galaxy 2 floating in the wind. I would expect Sunshine and 64 to be one game, Galaxy 1 and 2 to be another, and SM3DW to be its own. Unless maybe they want to keep the Galaxies separate to… break up the monotony?

  10. Not having Galaxy 2 would be lame. Aside from Odyssey, that’s my fav 3D Mario game. I liked it way, way more than the first one. 64 is good and all but I personally hope it’s touched up a lot. Say what you want, but the original has not aged flawlessly. The camera, slippery physics, and certain levels are just irritating. Nostalgic, yeah, but that’s about it.
