Video: Super Mario Maker 2 World Maker update trailer

The Super Mario Maker 2 game allows players to unleash their creativity with more new options and the ability to create their own world map. On April 22, the free final update to Super Mario Maker 2 for the Nintendo Switch system adds a new World Maker mode, as well as a host of new content and features.

In World Maker mode, multiple courses created by a user can be tied together on a path from the starting point on a world map to the end castle. The look of the world map can also be customized. Up to eight worlds containing a total of up to 40 courses can be combined, creating a mini Super Mario game that can be shared with others.*

In addition to World Maker, guess who else is making an appearance in Super Mario Maker 2? The Koopalings! All seven of these troublemakers, each with his or her own movement pattern, can be added to user-created courses. Other enemies added to the game include the key-chasing Phanto and the wind-up Mechakoopas.

Additional power-ups and course parts are also coming to Super Mario Maker 2 as part of the free update. This includes the SMB2 Mushroom, which transforms Mario and friends into their look from the Super Mario Bros. 2 game and allows them to pick up and throw items and enemies – just like in that classic game! With the Frog Suit from the Super Mario Bros. 3 game, Mario can swim through water with ease, and even run across its surface! Other power-ups added to the game are the Power Balloon first introduced in the Super Mario World game, the Super Acorn from the New Super Mario Bros. U game and the Boomerang Flower from Super Mario 3D World. There are also five variations for wearables like the Cannon Box and Propeller Box from the Super Mario 3D World game.

All of this and more can be experienced by downloading the free update on April 22. For more information about Super Mario Maker 2, visit https://supermariomaker.nintendo.com/.

Both Builder Mario and Builder Toad are also making an appearance on the racetrack in the Mario Kart Tour mobile game!** During the Trick Tour from 11 p.m. PT on April 21 to 10:59 p.m. PT on May 5, players can try to acquire these hardhat-wearing drivers and use them to earn in-game rewards or challenge friends in online multiplayer.

    1. They might be unannounced surprises, who knows. A lava valley/volcano would make for a more believable last world theme with the World Maker part of the update though, that’s for sure, rather than having all four levels be castle…

    2. I personally would’ve loved the Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, Super Mario Bros. 2, Yoshi’s Island (in style only), and Super Mario 64 styles.

  1. I tried posting a comment but internet too slow I guess.

This might be an odd thing to say even though it’s a bit doubtful.
I’m a bit scared that the world maker is exclusive to course world/online section. I mean, world maps in most 2D Super Mario games were like part of the staple and as someone who wished for a map maker since Super Mario Maker 1, I hope it’s usable offline before sharing. Sadly I don’t think they made it very clear. 42 hours is gonna be so long. Haha

    1. Pretty sure they said you can upload your World Maker world, so that implies that you can use it offline

  2. bruh they went so fast
they just added like, a million new powerups and took like 1 second introducing each
and the whole world map thing looks real rad.
    idk. im excited.

  3. Well, at least now we can finally make out own courses, but they forgot the beach world map and the level with it. It would be nice as a final update they might add. I’m still hoping for them to add lives limit for entering a player course. That’s the only things they are missing.

So this is the final update but they didn’t put another game style? It’s strange imo because in extra style it feels like there is a spot for a new style in the game.

    1. I know, right? That’s very weird indeed. Maybe after this update, they will have fixed the “Extra” area, maybe removing it entirely and put the 3D World style with the others. Let’s see!

It feels like they initially planned to add more styles, maybe they were working on a SMB2 style. But in the end it didn’t make the cut, they changed their mind and did something else completely.

After all, SMM2 surely have it’s fans, but it’s not a best seller. Maybe they thought it would sell more, but since it didn’t they had to change their plans. Cause… corporations and investors. That’s what they do.

      1. 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓

Or they didn’t want to add an extra style in favor of World Maker.

  5. Dang, I was really hoping for a Mario Bros 2 update. I think it would be great for those who like to use a vertical level format, and having the enemies and items from that game, along with Peach being playable would’ve been great.

  6. Certainly can’t complain about value for money for this game.
I’m gona make a super Mario world world! Cool

  7. Dame it Nintendo I want amiibo costumes back. Even if it’s not every single character. So many of my wii U courses I can’t rebuilt because I need amiibo costumes to finish them.

  8. Thing I’m unclear on. Does last major update specifically mean they will never make DLC? Because if the possibility is open, it answers a lot of these complaints.

  9. It’s too bad that this is the final update. This game has great potential beyond what has and will come out. Imagine, a Mario Land 2 style (in color as well as in black & white), Kirby and Samus costumes, other mushroom house mini-games, someone mentioned beach and volcano levels, and I’m sure that there is more!

Well, maybe they want to get this game out of the way so that they can move on to Zelda Maker.
