Nintendo Switch

A Splatoon 2 Special Demo event begins on April 29th, version 5.2.0 now available, Splatfest to begin on May 22nd

Nintendo is not done with Splatoon 2 just yet. The company has made multiple announcements related to the game tonight. The first was an announcement of a special demo event that will be starting on April 29th and ending on May 9th. The demo will allow players to try out “Turf War, Ranked Battle, Salmon Run, and more”. Nintendo also says that Splatoon 2 “will be available at a discounted price on Nintendo eShop during the duration of the Splatoon 2 Special Demo 2020, & a free 7-day trial of Nintendo Switch Online will also be available”.

The second piece of Splatoon 2 news was the release of an update that the company had announced last week, and brings the game to version 5.2.0. Lastly, Nintendo announced that, starting May 22nd and ending on May 24th, the Team Ketchup and Team Mayo Splatfest will return. When Nintendo revealed the update last week, they published the update’s official patch notes, so you can see them in full down below.

The changes in this update are designed to lower the abilities of a portion of all weapons and specials that, based on analysis of statistical data, had obtained an advantage in results.

Our intention is that this will entice players to explore these weapons, while retaining their individual strengths of the weapons in scenarios where they are advantageous.

We reference various sorts of statistical data for these adjustments, but in particular for those which lower the abilities of certain weapons, we’ve focused on data from matches between players of high Rank.

We will issue future updates after looking carefully at changes resulting from this update, as well as the overall state of statistical data over the long term.

Other Changes

  • Changed the unlock conditions for Tracks #20 through #26 in Squid Beatz 2 so that anyone can play them.
  • Extended the time limit to play your next game after you repeatedly disconnect within a short period of time.
    • This change will affect only those with frequent disconnects, less than 1% of all active players worldwide.
    • The more frequent your disconnects over a short period of time, the longer the time limit to play your next game will be.
  • When you download the latest update data, you will no longer be able to connect with players in The Shoal who have older update data.

  1. Interesting…
I don’t recall Nintendo ever trying to ‘second wind’ any of their games after they have said they’re more or less done with them.

Could it be that they are revitalizing Splatoon 2 because of other things being delayed?

    1. Could be, but I have a feeling that what they did for Arms after the smash announcement was successful enough that they figured giving the same opportunity for Splatoon 2 would be worth it

  2. I’m sorry but there resetting the splatfest thats stupid, sounds confusing tbh, it makes the old splatfest in splatoon 2 seem obselete, and a waste of time, I hope they don’t try that.

Except no? Winning in Splatfests is more of a cherry on top than the end goal. The main goal behind winning is reaping the rewards like Super Sea Snails and rolling Chunks with the Splatfest Tee in addition to being able to clean it for only 2,000 coins.
If you think your side winning is all that matters, you’ve had the wrong idea this entire time.

      1. roflmao hey bonhead, you get sea snails when you level up! if you are that hard up for splatfest play it in a private battle

Do you know how slow of a grind it is to get 1 Super Sea Snail per level up? Very slow especially once you get to the higher levels. With 1 Splatfest you can get a minimum of 21 Super Sea Snails in less than 24 hours if you’re willing to hit King rank. That is exponentially faster than grinding per level ups. And that’s not even bringing the benefits you get from the Splatfest Tee.
Also, don’t know if you’re aware of this, but private battles earn you zero rewards. For someone that called Nintendo brainless half of the time, you sure did a good job making yourself look that way.

      3. The thing is in the splatoon lore the splatfest article 4 law states that the losing side has to accept to what the winning side chooses, redoing the splatfest kinda makes that rule useless, also literally the whole point of splatfest is to pick a side and compete to win, don’t you remember the side that wins gets more super sea snails, so in a way all the effort we put in the old splatfest don’t mean anything since it’s getting a redo, besides they could have made a new one instead of relying on an old one

Oh please, you’re really using the lore as a way to undermine this? That’s ridiculous. I mean do we even know if this supposed “law” is even canon? On top of that, this supposed law was mentioned by Pearl so how do you know it’s even a thing and not just something Pearl came up with?

And again, not really, yes you pick a side and try to win but if you think that’s all there is to Splatfest, again you’ve had the wrong idea this whole time. People play Splatfests because of the rewards, if you hit King rank you get 21 Super Sea Snails guaranteed! “Oh but you get more if you’re side wins” Oh wow, let’s give a huge round of applause for the 3 extra you get…

And the effort you put into the last 1 doesn’t mean anything? Hang on, it’s sounds like you genuinely believe all the rewards you got from the original are magically going to vanish. Again, the win is just a cherry on top, not the end goal.

    2. I agree. there is no need for it! when people can do it in a private battle :/ I swear Nintendo has no brains half of the time! instead of making yet another waste of time splatfest the need to fix there internet, I have 100mega and still once in a while get disconnected.
