At least one of them has Marth.

        I don’t think so.

        1. I’m sorry, I know you like Shadow Dragon, but that’s definitely (for me, and many others) one of the most boring experiences FE has to offer. Lots of grey and little coloured characters which you get so many of because Kaga designed his game around people dying.

          1. I actually replayed Shadow Dragon a few weeks ago (I’m marathoning the entire series) and my impressions of it took a complete 180.
I used to think the game was a boring slog but upon playing it again I found it incredibly enjoyable.
Yes, the story is very simplistic compared to future entries and characters are almost non-existent. But what is there is well-written, acting as an intriguing prologue of sorts to a game we unfortunately never got in the states (being New Mystery of the Emblem).
The localization team behind the game (who also localized Awakening and Echoes) really know how to play to the setting and bring the world to life, even with the limitations of being a retelling of a story from a 1990 famicom game.

It is unfortunate that out of the dozens of characters in the game, only a small handful of them are developed throughout (extra unfortunate considering the game we never got added support conversations). But to be quite honest, if I had to choose between a couple of really well written characters in simple yet focused story, or 60+ one dimensional dating personas in a messy trash fire of writing we would see in Fates… Gonna have to go with the former.

Even as a game alone, once you turn off those ugly ass animations, Shadow Dragon becomes a fun challenge you can run through in about 12-15 hours with plenty of different characters and difficulties to experiment with in further playthroughs. I used to think this was the worst game in the series. And wow, was I wrong…
It’s still the worst remake of the three by far though. Replaying Shadows of Valentia right now and that game is just a treat even with its trash map design.

No problem. Everyone has their own favorite FE game.

Are you thinking that we are going to get a FE remake? Because there was a rumour but nothing confirmed.

    My top 5 is

    1.Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
    2.Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
    3.Fire Emblem: Three Houses
    4.Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword
    5.Fire Emblem: Awakening

  3. Pretty good list. Maybe this is a call for a Holy War remake? When I tried FE4, I could see why it’s so popular, but it’s also really really slow. A remake with modern quality of life improvements would be amazing.

  4. I’m brand new to the Fire Emblem series, as I have only played Echoes: Shadows of Valentia and currently playing Fates Birthright. I really hope there will be a way to play these older Japanese exclusives in the future!

    1. I’d recommend downloading an emulator and playing FE Path of radiance and FE Radiant Dawn, since they’re some of my favorite fire emblem games out of all the games I’ve played…but the physical copies for path of radiance for example are literally over $150+!!!!! So yeah, not a great idea to go physical.

They’re super rare, but EXTREMELY great games imo…some of my favorite of all time, along with Three Houses.

  5. G-geneology of the Holy war….at number.1???!!!!

I’ll admit I thought it was just going to be awakening or fates, and even three houses would be left out.

  6. I started playing Geneology before TH came out, and while it’s older, and there are some issues with that, there were some really cool things that I really would wish they’d bring back in another game. One thing of note was the fact that your units will actually be able to have several conversations on the battlefield, like when they first come onto the map and join your army, they’ll actually *talk* to their long-lost brother or something, instead of the game not even acknowledging any relationships.

  7. I love RPG games since I downloaded the demo Bravely Default II. I’m down with Fire Emblem. RPGs rule. Why I think so? Because it is a strategy how to make your players get stronger each battle. I love them!!! I’m so glad to win Trails of Mana and Bravely Default II demo.
Some of these games can have 70hrs of gameplay.

  9. I swear that a Lego x Fire Emblem game would work out so well. It could be very humorous and poke fun at a lot of the series tropes but also be a true fire emblem game. Also, virtually building your own lego maps and enemy placements that you could share online would be baller too.

  10. Decided to play or replay through every game in the series (barring the technical first three because they have remakes that basically replace them)
My list is subject to change after I play them all but for now the list is…

    1. Shadows of Valentia – It’s map design is hot garbage but it does everything else so well that it easily evens out to my favorite. It’s a lot more RPG like than any other Fire Emblem and that might be the main deciding factor in my decision… Also the music and voice acting and presentation in general are top notch.
2- Genealogy of the Holy War – The one on the list I admittedly never finished but this game is basically what comes to mind when I think of Fire Emblem. It blends its game and narrative elements together very well, basically culminating in a playable war drama. That said it hasn’t aged incredibly and could use a remake.
3 – Three Houses – I thought the game would suck and caught me entirely by surprise. It’s got a well written story and cast of characters for the most part and almost feels like a Fire Emblem sandbox for how much you can customize your units to your exact specifications.
4 – Path of Radiance – While this game’s characters aren’t too terribly interesting (especially Ike), it has a fleshed out world that makes each piece of lore interesting to soak in. It’s also just plain good fun, if not a little basic and slow at times.
5 – Awakening – This game has a dumb story after it’s first ‘arc’ and characters are admittedly too troupey at times (kind of a guilty pleasure), and the game is pretty dumbed down compared to others in the series. But it is wildly fun to speed run with a different set of units or just challenge yourself with the higher difficulties. Also it saved the franchise, so that’s a plus.

    1. I’m working on playing/beating all of them too. Haven’t made any progress for a while though. Let’s see. I’ve done FE1, Gaiden (couldn’t beat it though, was too grindy for me), Binding Blade, Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones, PoR, Awakening, Fates, and Three Houses (not all the routes though). I bought Echoes forever ago, but I haven’t even booted the darn thing. Most excited for Genealogy and Radiant Dawn.

  11. My top 3:

    Three Houses
    Awakening
Fire Emblem (GBA) (otherwise known as Blazing Blade)

I don’t feel strongly enough about the others to rank them, despite playing all of them (English releases) except Shadow Dragon.
