The Sonic movie is getting a sequel

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie, which released in February, has been so successful that a sequel has already been confirmed. SEGA Sammy and Paramount have revealed to Variety that the sequel is “in the development stage so decisions have not been made yet regarding casting or a production start date”. Variety also reports that “the sequel would reteam the filmmakers, with Jeff Fowler directing, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara are producing the pic, while Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller are executive producing”.

    1. How does this prevent Netflix from being able to make series? Series are done with movie universes all the time, they just need to bring someone on to do them.

  1. Okay… So, who didn’t see this coming.
Not that it’s a bad thing. I really liked the movie.

  2. I want to see Amy rose with her sonic adventure design. I’m looking for the first 2020 sonic movie on blu ray. I trust that the sequel will be enjoyable even if Amy is not in it. #PleaseNoBigTheCat #PleaseNoOmochao #PleaseNoCharmyBee

I agree with you about Big the Cat and Omochao but not for Charmy Bee.

  3. Was this the great big giant Sega news that’s as big as an exclusive on the PS5?

Cause I hate to break it to that guy but….. this is not a big scoop.

      1. “actually this is a big scoop.”

How exactly is “movie that made a good amount of money gets a sequel”, a scoop? Its the status quo for movies. The odds of hit happening were 99% as soon as we saw the box office receipts.

  4. That’s cool but can the plot not be generic this time, because I swear these movies all showcase the same animated cgi character interacting in real life environments, I mean let’s be honest if this movie didn’t have sonic name slap in, or him as the main character, It wouldn’t have done so well box office else here’s hoping the sequel is good.

  5. 1. First off, let’s remember that these films are 92 minutes long at average.
    2. There is a large group of people who hate multiple Sonic characters (anthro 3ft animals), lumping them under the “Sonic’s shitty friends”. Why remind the haters of that?
    3. This movie is aimed at the “everyone else” audience, who haven’t picked up a Sonic game since the Genesis or who saw him in enough media to know who he is and what he does.
    4. We already have an established cast in the first film alone. It would be strange to go willy-nilly in introducing the cast from Sonic Forces/TSR in one single sequel.
    5. The first film already focused on Sonic’s character growth, his dynamic with Tom, and who Jim Carrey’s Robotnik is. Since Tails and True Eggman were already foreshadowed, they should focus on those two, plus Super Sonic, actual zones, and the Chaos Emeralds.
    6. Should this sequel NOT get hit by sequelitis (everything people hate about the modern sonic games and/or terrible live-action family/romance movie cliches such as marital conflict, forgotten anniversaries, connecting with children, “you’re grounded”, pregnancy plots, etc.), THEN you can introduce other characters like Knuckles, Amy, and Metal Sonic in the third and/or fourth films, completing the main players from the classic era that everyone remembers.

  8. Compared to the trailer, the Sonic movie was actually really good. And it’s quirky how they gave an explanation for why Sonic collects rings in the video games. The old trailer was deleted, but there are still some vids on YT about the old one.
Personally I think he looks better than in the video game. Like, why were his eyes attached?
