Marvel’s Brie Larson wants Nintendo to cast her as Samus Aran in a movie

Actress Brie Larson has stated that she would once again love to play the iconic Samus Aran if Nintendo decided to create a Metroid movie. The actress appeared on Gary Whitta’s Animal Talking talk show, during which Whitta mentioned to her that “They all want you to play Samus, Brie. They all want you to be in a Metroid movie.” Here’s her response:

“I would love that so much. So, I was Samus for Halloween two years ago… It was literally a $20 costume I bought off of Amazon, it was like nothing. I was so excited about it, and so I posted a picture of it on Instagram of me and the costume and it turned into this thing of people being like “woah!” She was always my character that I played in Super Smash Bros. and I just loved her. So that whole thing started and I’ve definitely not put a squash to that story and I definitely want to make that movie, I definitely want to participate in that. So, Nintendo, once again, I would love to do it!”

    1. I fail to see how she performed badly in Captain Marvel. They didn’t have a great grasp on her characterization in Endgame, but I don’t get the hate on Captain Marvel.

      1. She was pretty stiff emotionally in the movies and so, many people weren’t able to connect with the character. Although, I don’t know captain marvel’s personality in the comics so I’m not sure if that was true to character or not. She was sparsely used in endgame so that didn’t help either.

      2. I don’t get the hate on her performance, but it definitely wasn’t a good script, and she has developed an enormous reputation for being unlikely off the camera that is likely to bleed into negative opinions on her performance as well.

  1. She might be a good fit to be a young actress to play Samus for a Metroid Movie. She did really well for playing Captain Marvel and in endgame. I hope Nintendo make a final decision to make a movie base on the series. Also Sickr, You spell Aran wrong. Its actually Samus Aran.

  2. No! If ever someone were to play Samus, let it be an an known silent actress. Let not this lady make the mother M of movies.

    F=MA.

  3. Dunno.
On one hand, her appearance and more quiet performance could translate well into the Samus character.
On the other hand, she has been very vocal about certain opinions, and I don’t know if Nintendo wants to risk being put under fire for that.

  4. Make it happen plus I need it to be like avatar planets and animals with a horror feel to ir. For me Metroid has the potential to be one of best sci-fi movies ever better than alien because it has alien creatures and a super female character

  5. F!!!!!!!!!!!!!@# NO! Brie Larson better get her stuck up a$$ away from one of fewest female protagonists I still love with her bull$hit! I swear to f!@#ing god if Nintendo cast this uptight piece of $hit as Samus it will ruin Metroid for me completely!
If anyone from the MC movies should get the role it should be Scarlett Johansson, you know, a female actor who can ACTUALLY ACT and is a seasoned female action star with plenty of movies under her belt?!

Brie Larson as Samus Aran, my left nut that’s gonna happen!

  6. I try to separate person from performer, so I’m not automatically opposed to this. I don’t think I could genuinely like a Metroid movie from Hollywood anyway, because I imagine they’d want to give it a mainstream appeal. Meaning they’d make the main character very different from her usual self. If they stuck to the quiet, stoic characterization, I imagine someone like Brie Larson, January Jones or even Chloë Grace Moretz could probably handle it. As long as they get in good shape.

  7. 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓

I want more Metroid games. Not a movie.

  8. HEY! Look at the bright side! If they make an Other M movie she’d be perfect for playing that version of Samus XD

  9. Although I already don’t see her as nearly a good match for Samus in both Looks and Personality, I say no Metroid Movies at all please. Metroid’s the silent gem that only the few who know get to enjoy. Give it to Hollywood and they will ruin it, and if Metroid goes mainstream it’ll be ruined in more ways than I can count. I’m perfectly fine with the Fan Movies because they’re not making them for money, they’re making them with the sole intent of making an honest to true Metroid Movie.

  10. Brie Larson needs to keep her identity politics out of it. If she gets the role she needs to remember to treat the fans with respect.

  11. Metroid would make for a terrible film adaptation. The series thrives on atmosphere and for the most part, silence. A truck load of dialogue will not serve to help the situation.

    1. Those two things — film and tons of dialogue — aren’t mutually exclusive. Hell, A Quiet Place just came out two years ago. Wasn’t my cup of tea, but a lot of people quite enjoyed it.

  12. Y’all here complaining about Captain Marvel a bunch, as if that wasn’t largely the result of questionable directing by Boden and Fleck.

She was a blast in Scott Pilgrim and 21 Jump Street. And despite being a lackluster adaptation of the book, she was pretty brilliant in The Glass Castle, which is still rather recent.

Give her a competent director and she can be really solid, honestly.

  13. She’s an annoying entitled bitch (which is why she has this “choose me, I’m the best” attitude). Scarlett Johansson would be a much better fit.

  14. So this site now? I’m leaving a different site for covering “celebrity” news, specifically this person who I had no idea who she was, or ever watched a single movie with her in it. I just know that she’s got detractors and supporters, both of which are annoying. The person herself, as useless as any other Tom Dick and Harry. It’s Ronda rousey all over again, how come you guys don’t post Ronda news anymore? Only when she was popular, huh? Love this site, but trash like this is not helping, the other Nintendo site I hardly visit because they cover this person.

  15. AlcoholPartyGamesFromChina

Brie Larson looks like Pokémon trainer Avery. A huge disappointment. I dislike them equally.

Scarlett Johansson is better than Brie Larson and Klara is better than Avery.

  16. Hell no. We don’t need woke Samus. Next she’s be complaining about the Galactic Federation being patriarchal or she’ll be #MeToo’ing Adam Malkovich.

  17. No thanks, I’d rather samus show fear and strife when fighting something like mother brain or ridely. Not staring blankly into space while overwhelming her foes with brute force.

  18. “Keep metroid away from feminists”. That is one of the lamest comments I’ve heard on this message board.

  19. Why are dudes so mad at her? In an interview she called for inclusion of people of color and marginalized identities in movie reviews.
OMG who does she think she is!
There is no reason for her to have so much hate thrown her way.

If you have that much hate for Brie (again, why?), I’d love to hear your genaral thoughts on women, I’m sure their great.

  20. Oh! Let’s get Elizabeth Banks to direct, too! Best movie EVAR!! Just like how Federation Force was the best video game EVAR!! We can get Paul Feig to help produce, as well! With Rian Johnson as executive producer! These people have already done such great justice to the MCU, Charlie’s Angel’s, Ghostbusters, & Star Wars! Why not let them make the best video game adaptation, too!?

… Is the sarcasm in my comment evident yet? Lol
