Platinum Games shares info on a number of games

GameXplain recently had the chance to chat with Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba from the mighty development powerhouse, Platinum Games. The chat delved into a number of topics including the likelihood of Star Fox Zero being ported to the Nintendo Switch and how Bayonetta 3‘s development is coming along. Here’s a quick summary:

We’re joined Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba to discuss the release of The Wonderful 101 Remastered & PlatinumGames at large! Find out how Bayonetta 3 is coming along, what’s going on with a Star Fox Zero port, and who they both want in Smash!

  • Atsushi Inaba said there’s never been a day where they didn’t want to do a sequel to The Wonderful 101
  • He says it would be nice if the day came when they could make a sequel, but it would be a challenge
  • Platinum is interested in working with Nintendo again in the future
  • Bayonetta 3 development is “going fine”
  • No conversations have happened with Platinum about porting StarFox Zero to Switch
  • Due to the fan reaction to the dog in Project GG, there might be an expanded role for the dog in the full game
  • Hideki Kamiya would love to see Amaterasu added to Smash Bros. Ultimate

I don’t think Nintendo will ask them to port SFZ on the Switch. Just think about the fact we got the Star Fox team in the game Starlink Battle for Atlas. If they wanted to port the game they probably have asked it back then but no instead we got a “sort of” new Star Fox game and still the sells weren’t good.

This is horrible to see. Nintendo asks other companies to include/make SF games but it always went bad.

I’m still hoping to see Star Fox in the future but for now I’m happy with Starlink Battle for Atlas.

    1. Or they could had just made a new Starfox game but they didnt. They just sit there make one game then do nothing after it is complete. They desire a sequal and dont get started on it. Look at Retro. What was the last game they made after Tropical Freeze? What they doing now? Nothing.

Retro was working on Star Fox game but then the project was discared. Maybe Nintendo considered Starlink a better option for Star Fox.

It is still possible to see a new Star Fox game but not very soon.

      2. Doesn’t the data suggest by now that they probably *shouldn’t* make a new Starfox game? It hasn’t really been commercially successful in over 20 years now.

    2. I want to understand this unnecessary prolonging of loafing around for years after finishing a game rated high and selling high. Why dont the devlopers work on a new game right away?

Bayonetta 3 development is going fine…

How many times I have to read/hear this again and again and again?

Can’t they just make a video of 30 seconds showing the game?

    1. They lying.
      Hint
5 years ago”Pikmin 5 is nearly complete.” Yeah right.

After these games are complete expect nothing for nestly a decade since they dont work on games the moment they complete another one.

      1. 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓

Was Pikmin 4 nearly complete? Anyway I’m tired to read the same quote about Bayo 3. Something is wrong.

    2. Yeah I’m tired of seeing “Bayonetta 3 is doing well.” Myself. The Switch is 3 years old, and because they didn’t work immediately after Bayonetta 2 debuted, I think Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4 and BOTW 2 will debut on Switch and next generation Switch. So if you want to play a definitive version then you have to pay $400 to play it. Think Twilight Princess and BOW 1. Would you rather play BOW on Wii U or Switch? Answer = the more power console.

      1. Now that’s just dumb on Nintendo’s end. Didnt they learn that from Banjo-kazooie and other Rare Games when they first was exclusives to Nintendo? They going to sit there and let Bayonetta and Astral Chain go to Xbox.

  3. I told ja they dont work on games immediately the moment a game is complete. They havent even started porting Starfox Zero to the Switch. They just make games then after that dont do nothing. So I guess it’ll be 2025 before they start Astral Chain 2.

Told ja. Here with partnering with Nintendo once a game is done they dont do nothing. And that’s why there are no game in 2020.

  4. And if you really wanted a sequal to W102? Why didnt you just make it? What’s stopped Platinum? They ain’t doing nothing but working on one game Bayonetta 3. So they cant work on more than one game at the same time?

    1. They are currently working on project GG, Bayonetta 3, babylons fall, and grandblue fantasy relink. There is 0 reason to assume they need to drop everything to work on another sequel instead of working on their other projects. On top of which you also need to read up on game development, both took over 5 years to make, and about 100 million dollars in costs. Games take a while to make and cost a lot of money. Patience is needed. They probably announced Bayonetta 3 really early in development because Nintendo wanted the momentum. Its coming just be patient.

  5. Will this explains the 2020 Nintendo drought. Make one game then dont do nothing. Just sit there after completing a game and saying” Oh I really want to make a sequal or port” Then why not just fullfill your dream and work on the game immediately?

Trine franchise doesnt have that problem. Hell they probably hot Trine 5 in R&D as we speak. What’s Platinum and Nintendo ‘a excuse?

  6. If I was a devloper and made my first game and released it and saw it got good reviews by IGN etc and was top 10 best selling for months, I’m not going to sit there and not do nothing. I’m going to start the sequel immediately. Why would I sit there in a chair dreaming about how bad i want to make a sequel but not start on it? That’s stupid.

  7. What they mean👉 Platimum Is interested in working with Nintendo again?👈

What’s the point of separating in the 1st for no dumb reason? This why we have delays in games. If you have sone sort of partnership, and things are working well, why not immediately renew a contract before the old one expires so that the software tittles can continue non-stop? That’s why there is nothing to show from Nintendo now.

    1. 𝑵𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑶𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓

So she is in the game too. 😂

    2. So is Myiomoto with his lying self 5 years ago. Pikmin 4 is nearly complete. It’ll probably come out in another decade.

Metroid Prine 4, Bayonetta 3, BOW 2 and Pikmin 4 all on M.I.A.

I’m starting to think these games don’t even exist anymore.

      1. Okay we get it you don’t like droughts. You don’t have to keep saying practically the same thing over and over again on each article that talks about either sequels or games in general.

    3. I have to agree. It’s really annoying seeing there are a lot of comments on an article thinking there’s other users sharing their thoughts. But when you view them it’s actually Gruntilda spamming the same comments like they do on pretty much every other article on this site.

  8. So let’s analyze the tidbits:

“Atsushi Inaba said there’s never been a day where they didn’t want to do a sequel to The Wonderful 101”
Yet they didn’t. This clearly shows a lot about how Nintendo cares about the IP (not much, although I don’t blame them: TW101 was a so-so game, not the worst to come of Platinum but pretty up there). The same reasoning as for why it went multiplat.

“He says it would be nice if the day came when they could make a sequel, but it would be a challenge”
Meaning: they won’t. Correlated with the above, Nintendo doesn’t care.

“Platinum is interested in working with Nintendo again in the future”
Water is wet. Nintendo and Platinum’s relationship was always good.

“Bayonetta 3 development is ‘going fine'”
Don’t believe an iota of it until proper trailer is shown.

“No conversations have happened with Platinum about porting StarFox Zero to Switch”
Meaning: they won’t. And good, because SFZ was mediocre.

“Due to the fan reaction to the dog in Project GG, there might be an expanded role for the dog in the full game”
Did Project GG really make such an impact on that trailer? Because, honestly.

“Hideki Kamiya would love to see Amaterasu added to Smash Bros. Ultimate”
Everyone would love to see someone added to Smash. Water is wet.

Results: they’ve said a whole lot of nothing, as usual.

  9. Port Star Fox Zero? Doesn’t that game require two screens, a television and a gamepad?
I’ve played Star Fox Zero, and I honestly cannot see that game working on anything but the Wii U. If you were to port it to the Switch, the game would be so broken as to be unplayable.

  10. “No conversations have happened with Platinum about porting StarFox Zero to Switch”
So… what you’re saying is it’s up to NINTENDO to have that game ported?

If ‘so’ then as long as Nintendo says ‘yes’ then I’ll be cool with it.
