Fan designed Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO set will be released in collaboration with SEGA

The topic of Sonic has been doing the rounds online recently with a few high profile voice actors retiring from the franchise along with the announcement of a new Netflix show. But now it’s been revealed that a Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO set that was designed by a fan has been given the green light for production. A UK-based LEGO builder Viv Grannell who designed a Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone LEGO set and submitted it to the Ideas programme has now been given the go ahead and will be made and sold in collaboration with SEGA. The designer’s idea picked up a staggering 10,000 votes from the LEGO community and Viv had the following to say about the experience of it being picked:

“I’ve been invested in the world of Sonic for almost my entire life,” said designer Viv Grannell, “and it’s such a perfect fit for the LEGO system that I spent about a year rallying support for it to happen. Having 10,000 people back my design was overwhelming enough, even with friends and family behind me, but having it be selected for further development was the most exciting secret I have ever had to keep!”.

There’s no release date or pricing info as it’s still early days, but hopefully it shouldn’t take too long for more details about the release to surface.

  1. This is one of those cases of
    “SEGA does whay Ninten-don’t”
which is kinda sad, really… would be so awesome if Nintendo did the same for that LEGO Zelda that one fan made that other time, it looked amazing and could have been a big seller too.
